Hi all, I don't know if this is the right section for this but I'm posting it here anyway. I was checking my blog and I got this comment: Then, I decided to follow the link on the comment's title and found out that my post at DP was duplicated here. Not only that, I kept browsing the site and found several DP posts being republished there. Do any of you guys know what's going on?
DP forum has large number of members specializing in easy money - i.e. MFA sites with stolen content. earning without investing / earning without working ... an the like. that is a common trend in modern society. nothing to worry about as those ppl lack the power to survive in times of global crises and sooner or later get lost without any further action involving waste of time or resources. If I search the web then I see entire sites made almost entirely from stolen content or syndicated content from my site. then a brief look at THEIR alexa data shows that they normally have near zero traffic - thus also near zero adsense revenue
The RSS feed is available for anyone to use, that is why you get duplicated sites! http://king-of-da-wackos.com
Not really stealing anything. DP provides the RSS feed for this very reason. If they don't want the posts showing up all over the internet, then disable the RSS feed and stop people from bitching like this.
The way it's done IS stealing! Just because something does not have a sign "don't steal" on eat, does not mean you are allowed to steal. If you incorporate content into your site without permission and without quoting the source etc, it's stealing.
No its not, RSS main purpose is to do exactly what it does. If DP wants a source lsited, then they need to make sure the RSS feed lists the source. And i got the linkback as well for one of my blogs, and it contained the link to the thread at DP, does that not count as listing the source?
You don't get it, do you? Given that the content of a RSS feed is copyrighted - and most experts think that RSS content is copyrighted - YOU are responsible to follow the laws. The copyright holder does not need to tell you, what you CAN do with the RSS feed. If nothing is said, "fair use" applies. The way it's used on the mentioned website, is NOT "fair use". Anything not "fair use" needs a permission from the copyright holder. You have one? Nice trick to earn money btw: Put up a RSS feed and after some people stupidly republished it for some time, get a lawyer and sue them for paying a nice license fee. From the forum FAQ: Does it say, you can publish the content on your website? No! Means? You are NOT allowed to publish it. What can you do with the RSS feed? Have it on your personal MyYahoo page, on your iGoogle page, ... The thing is: It is for YOU only and not for republishing it for others. Disclaimer: IANAL!
IF he knew how to survive on first place he couldnt have started that bullshit. The blog will die sooner or later.Dont worry.
So then does that mean that once you submit your post, it then becomes property of DP? Would that make DP liable for other issues as well then?
Now it get REALLY difficult I assume that by posting in this forum I implicitely give DP a non-exclusive right to publish my texts. The question is: Do I automatically allow "re-publishing"? What is with other media (if they should decide to print a book with all posts in it)? In Germany for example it is simply not possible to give away your "ownership" to copyrigthed work. You can give away certain or all rights, but "ownership" will always be yours. Even several years after your death. This problem occurs because of the different "copyright" concepts in the anglo-american and the continental-european societies. Here in Germany the "right to copy" is only ONE of the rights that the author of a piece of text has. But even if he gives away this right, he will always be the owner. Now who is liable for what is written here? It depends Here in Germany it's not even clear countrywide. Different courts had different rulings on such topics. The authour IS responsible for what he writes. If it's illegal he faces the consquences. The publisher (like DP here) CAN be responsible for what is written. The so loved "disclaimer" for example doesn't help a piece of sh*t here in Germany. Run a small forum, have posts with illegal content, get sued. Point to your disclaimer "I am not responsible ..." and then get explained that a disclaimer can not put you outside of the law!
those site is crap and nobody will revisit it. not to mention they will earn nothing from us or other visitor as well since their design is poor and no unique content.
@mythbuster: you've made my point Just because I'm sharing my RSS feed with the entire planet (and maybe outer galaxies hehe) it doesn't mean that anyone can rip it and claim my hard work as theirs. Some people (as FightRice) find that hard to understand... I just don't get them Study hard for your exams and let others take your grades... that's insane.
