I am wondering what the best web design proggramme out there is? i have frontpage 3, is this worth using or should i switch? many thanks dr.web
Simple answer: No. Try using Notepad (or Notepad++, that's my preference) - worst case scenario, use Dreamweaver. Just my opinion, and I hope it helps!
I personally think Dreamweaver is the best WYSIWYG program out there. It has alot of features as well as alot of plug ins that other program dont have. I also HAND code (notepad) alot because that is how I started doing HTML files so. But perosnally I do not like Frontpage at all, its features are not what I like to use, and don't think it offers as many as dreamweaver.
from what I understand microsoft no longer supports it and discontinued it and now produces expressionweb..or something
yup, Frontpage is replaced by Expression Web. The interface looks similiar to Visual Studio one more thing: dont use frontpage
I started with Frontpage, only because I was quite proficient with Microsoft Word. But as I improved with html editing, I found FrontPage a bit bloated with codes, and limiting in some respects. Only use it occasionally to grab quick codes to save time - e.g. for large tables. Also when hosting, the host needs Frontpage extensions, which at times can become corrupted...
Which is a bit like being the best electric guitar soloist in classical music... ALL wysiwygs are garbage - don't even BOTHER. Save yourself ENDLESS headaches and learn to do it properly.
No. No Frontpage is ever worth using. I agree with deathshadow on this -- all wysiwyg editors are garbage. Take the time and do it right.
Coffeecup , front page and dreamweavers r WYSIWYG prog but dreamweaver has many features as compare to others. And notepad is good if u know how to write html code. I do not like Frontpage due to lack of features. I will suggest go for dreamweaver
I use it , but I am integrating to other programs now, since I am learnig that there are lots of things I can't do with Frontpage that I neeeed to do. I am investigating Webbuilder 2007, webplus 7 ( the older version) and topstyle 3. I only use Frontpage cause it did what I wanted to originally and was easy to learn and Dreamweaver made no sense to me, but it's time to move on. I don't recommend you use it unless you just want to do basic stuff. basic = good. Good luck!
Anyone ever tried Visual Studio 2008 Express? I know it's supposed to be used for ASP.NET but it has support for html pages as well. And it's free.
