Adsense revenue drop with traffic increase

Adsense revenue drops as traffic increases - has anyone experienced this? One of my friends has a website, that's what he told me his experience was. Is it just a coincidence or it EPC starts dropping as soon as the traffic starts increasing?

It depends! Is it an old or new domain? Is it sub 1000 traffic or significant traffic?

One thing I've noticed also is that with low traffic, it's usually more targeted traffic. When the traffic increase, you start to receive visitors that don't necessarily care that much about the website and might leave after 5 secs of visit. So more traffic often means less targeted visitors...

It is a new domain, I think. The problem he is having is not with the targetted visitors. The visitors click on the ads alright, but he is not getting enough earning from those clicks. It must be the advertisers then, who have set the low bidding on the relevant keywords then.

Ok I see. It happened to me and I have a theory about it. With my new domains, for a certain time the CPC gets very low when the traffic increase. Eventually, it goes back up and reach a constant level...

My theory is that Google is "testing" your domain. If you provide regular updates with good traffic, they will eventually provide you with better ads. They don't want to loose money with crappy websites. It will eventually go up with time!

That makes sense. I like your theory of google testing the new domains. I have been worried about getting traffic to my own website after listening to my friends experience. I guess Google qualifies the quality websites first once there is a change in the traffic volume, then it rewards by displaying high paying ads.

That is one of the things I experienced, and one of the reasons I quit using AdSense. It makes you wonder just how ethical Google really is.

Anyway, I don't think you should build a website for adsense, because as soon as you get significant traffic(10 000+), you will be able to sell ad spots and stuff like that. Adsense is a good way of getting a couple of bucks per day from your site when you try to monetize it, but don't see it as your only source of income in the long run.

traffic increase and revenue drop is a coincedence i think. either your niche started paying low for the time being or you have been smart priced
