Will Google lose its dominance???

I guess that possible merger of Micorsoft and Yahoo will bring to a strong competitor for Google. But can we surely say, that Google will lose its dominance? Google is everywere on inet, and it seems that Google is the monopolist in online search and ads market.

History shows that the monopolism doesn't last for a long period indeed impeding new technologies advancement. What can we - common inet users do against Google's monopoly?

Microsoft and yahoo will be able to give google some competition but I do not think they will be able to beat google. I do not think google will lose it's dominance anytime soon.

Yeah, I doubt Google's loss of dominance either. Although, I, for one, don't care for them having as much power as they do. We all seem to live and die based upon how Google indexes our websites. How is it that everybody got to be using one search engine anyway? 8 years ago there were tons of search engines and their usage was much more distributed.

What do you think, is it good to have a dominant at the market like Google or have alternatives where Google will be just one of several best engines instead of being only one????

As businesses start growing too big, consumers tend to drift away for various reasons or the company loses its passion, or values.
Take Microsoft for instance, once a hero now many hate waht they stand for.
Look at any huge business and you will see them lose support.

However we have no idea what the internet will lokk like in 10 years, never mind what search engine will dominate.

Google has a good brand. If they can reverse a few shortcomings (like the spammy search results they now have), I do not see them becoming less dominant.

You can ask them to remove your sites from their index and boycott them. I WILL NOT be joining you in this endeavor.

I like Google. Because of my sites ranking well in their engine, my websites pay for college, I work from home, I take breaks when I want, I get to work today or not, I have no boss, etc., etc. Life is good......

I can only hope they become a true monopoly and remain forever......I would get more traffic.

A merger of Yahoo and Microsoft would help Google more than it would hurt. Competition is always needed for businesses to thrive. Don't forget that all three of them have worked together on a lot of things. So no Google will not lose it's dominance, not in the next 15-20 years at least.

Google is up for some game. Checkout SearchMe, and with this alliance of Yahoo and MSN, who knows? If G’ wants to maintain its dominance, they can’t stop doing what they’re doing, making more service.

NO, I don't think so. People are too lazy to switch to something new.
They have just learned how to spell Google ;)

Mate, what's wrong with everyone here? This topic (about Yahoo/Microsoft and the dominance of Google) is pretty old. You can find the 99% similar threads everywhere in this forum. You can just bump that thread, it's not necessary to create a new one.
