Ads opening in new windows

I've noticed that on a few sites that I've visited, I've clicked on a few google ads (not my sites or my ads :) ) and they have opened a new browser window.

    Is this something new?

I thought it was against the TOS to have the ads open in a new window?

it should not open in new window by default. site owner must have been serving adsense on a new window which is violation of TOS

That was my thoughts as well that it was in violation of the TOS.

However, I just visited the site and regular text based ads do not open in a new window, and the newer image banner style ads without the 'Ads by Google' tag on them do. Both are clearly google ads though.

Hang on, its possible for premium publishers. If anyone else doing it, then its against TOS. If you can give us the site url, we can check.

Yes, it's possible for premium sites. I noticed it with Friendster, a social network.

Adsense pays $ and webmaster lost visitor ( if ad open in same win) but if it opens in a new win then its against however adsense for search can open in a new win its not against the TOS

Search yes by your request and it open new window after you type your search words not before as an additional page, but other ads should not in order not to be against TOS of google or illegal actions.

those premiums are getting quite a special treatment:) I guess my next step will be to invest everything to become premium, otherwise it seems its not worth it staying with adsense:)
