It depends on time, if you have enough time to learn all about SEO and have own website then start it from DP, otherwise hire a professional for rankings.

This forum can be your guide in SEO, sure it may be difficult and sometime time consuming, but it's all worth it. If you have the time, learn lots of stuff here, do SEO start from the basics and use tools to assist you in optimization. But if you're a very busy business person/owner and want all things done at once, you might wanna try SEO services... I suggest learning and doing SEO to your site is still the best thing to do for a beginner.
You don't have to hire someone.Just build links and post unique content on your blog.Read the forums and that's it

It is always a cost consideration.... if you have the time to learn SEO, experiment and apply the knowlege...go for it... If you have better things to be doing and value your time, then hire some one. This is pretty much the crux of our business. Those that are spending their time working on their business (and can affod it) tend to hire a professional... Also, the more competitive the market, the more likely you may need some help....
It depends on you. If you already know SEO stuff and think that you have the knowledge and skills then it's fine but if you're new to this profession then it would be better for you to hire SEO professional for good results.
If you have a background on how SEO is done then try doing it your self but dont expect to much on your work. on the other hand if you have the money to finance a SEO professional then do so. It would cost you but in time it will be profitable for you.
