I would stay far away from this directory "MasterMOZ"

I guess I submitting my site and it got approved, but then I started getting spam emails
when I asked them to stop sending (because there was no opt-out link in the email) I was told the only way to stop getting the emails is to remove my listing.. WTF!!

I told that loser to remove my site and any other sites I've submitted.. I don't need some bs email bugging me every other day for a submission that gets no traffic...lmao

 

Where does it say that you have to sign up for a mail shot? Did you pay for the listing?

and I don't know where it says they will spam you, but they did

They couldn't even spell my whole name out..lol

oh, and!! there are 2 listing in the same section as mine that are dead links, and one or two doesn't even belong there!

Well I won't comment on your argument with them but do agree that they should never spam you and I bet the hosts they are on won't like it..

One good thing that might have come out of this is I'm looking for a skin for the phpLynx forum that's moving in the coming weeks as we're going open source. Is your services one of designing for vbulletin and how much? p.m me, I'll get back to you later after some zzzzz.

 

I would hardly call one email to “members” announcing the end of one of our early beta offers spamming.

Although the email about having to have an active email might have been a little to short and abrupt, we did follow up with an apology to Brandon and a more detailed email explaining our member review system and how a member must have an active email to know about their listing status.

We do also mention several times on the site that we may occasionally send out a site announcement or update to members.

 

It is if you haven't warned them or asked their permission or failed to provide a 'don't email me any more link. At least I think it is. Your giving links away for free just tell them they go on a mail list. Save this nonsense your getting then.

 

Yes, I agree. We do say it in a few places, but most people don't read and just click. So I guess we'll just have to find some places to make it more obvious.

In in regards to the spam, I expect it. which is why i use a differnt email address just for when submitting to directorys.

 

This is an exemplary solution, which I would strongly advise all directory submitters to undertake. However, the real issue is - you shouldn't have to. I'll be hell bent on the manipulation of web directories using submitters email addresses for spam purposes being one of the reasons directories 'integrity' has been lost among many, if not all, major search engines.

 

I have to agree, and that's coming from someone who promotes the best anti spam directory script on the planet, the problem is that if you accept free submissions you are in essence inviting spam, and most don't need a second invitation. The idea of a second e-mail is something my colleagues employed when they were free and it works a treat to a degree. The only deficit, (and there will always be one) is that some free e-mail accounts or ones with spam assassin etc can cause you to lose some potential custom.

 

It doesn't look like it's free to submit anymore.

In the MasterMOZ Directory all members must have an active email. If they don't their listing can go off-line You can see examples here:

On the left you see listings that either have not been reviewed yet or have been reviewed as positive.

On the right you will see some of the listings that have been reviewed as needs revision because they did not meet one or more of our guidelines. The submitter is notified by email and has 15 days to correct their listing.

If they do not correct it will go off-line from the category it is listed in. The detail page will still be active, but their link receives a no follow.
