I've never understood how resell rights for eBooks work. Are people who resell the product supposed to pretend it's theirs? Are the resell rights in the ebook? Is there a link to the original site in the eBook? Do you have to prove you paid for it in the first place to get resell rights?
When you purchase an ebook it is for your own personal use/reading. Som eof them come with resell rights or offer resell rights for an additional price. Resell rights give you the right to legally sell that ebook and keep the profits from it. Usually the ebook will have in it a statement that says you have resell rights or it will come with a seperate text type file that states you have resell rights. This is your "proof" you are allowed to resell the ebook. When you have resell rights, you are allowed to sell the ebook but the person you sell to is only allowed to use it for personal use/reading. Master resell rights, basically let you transfer resell rights to the purchaser of the ebook. So the person you sell it to would aslo now have resell rights and be able to sell the ebook themselves. PLR ( private label rights ) to an ebook basically means you can change the content and stuff to make it seem as tho it is YOUR product and that YOU created it and you can then sell it like above. If it doesnt have PLR then when you sell it you are basically selling someone elses book ( but keeping all profits ), with PLR you can make it seem as tho your the expert and its your book and when others sell it with there resellers or master resellers license, that ebook will now have all of your info in it.
Some people do legitimately protect their ebooks as much as possible. Technically, you supposed to purchase the resell rights, from then on you can build your own website around it and market it as if you had actually written it. The practice is fairly common but you should do your research on the product before making that type of decision. Most ebooks are not long-term projects, only a few are of high enough quality to sustain popularity. Many of which have several websites trying to sell the same product.
Actually resell rights only grant you a "license" to sell the ebook, not pretend it is your own. Private Label Rights or PLR grants you the ability to do that.
Make sure to check with the buyer for specifics on your ebook. If it's from a member's site, some have special rules and regs, for example: you may not be able to sell it on eBay, there may be a minimum recommended selling price, you may need to revise substantially (like a certain percentage) in order to sell Master rights, etc.
