I've only been using Adwords for a matter of weeks and hear that Google are now going to be stricter with their URL policy as from April 1st. Is htaccess 404 redirect allowed, or would Google slap me for it? E.g: Display example.com/widgets Destination: example.com with example.com/widgets not actually existing - yet when typed into the browser it automatically goes to example.com (to get my keyword being displayed in bold) - Or is it only the actual domain (example.com) that has to be the same? - Would display + destination have to match EXACTLY. i.e both example.com/widgets?
I've checked the link above and it says: Your ads will be approved if the URL of your landing page domain matches that of your Display URL domain. For example, the following would be acceptable: Display URL: google.com/adwords Destination URL: trackingurl.com/google123 Landing page URL: google.com So which is it? Is the link above outdated, or is what sultanofseo says, correct? My display says something like website.com/widgets with the Destination landing page showing as: website.com which according to the above link, would be allowed, no?
looks like i misunderstood the new URL pilicy. upon login to the adwords account lately, the msg says "Starting in April, display URLs for new ads will be required to match their destination / landing page URLs, without exception. Please adjust your URLs accordingly when creating new ads." but following the more info, it apprears that as long as the landing page is on the same domain as diaplay URL, its fine. whichn is the same policy adwords had for some time now. looks like they are making it more public as they had lot of questions about it
