    where do you backup the directory to the same harddisk where your site is or other harddisk.

    Through cpanel you can download it straight to your harddrive, i would never count on a host to keep anything for me, be obsessive about it, you may need it one day. :)

    Yeah, keep it on your hard drive and another data source if worried. I'm pretty happy with my host. I once lost a database and they'd made the daily backups as promised so I didn't loose any data. I wonder how many hosts that promise backups do actually backup.

    There is unix code out there to mail a file, yes. It won't be easy though.

    True, i bet some just say they are, fortunately you had/have that piece of mind, i figure its safe to be prepared ourselves, ive lost data in other ways years ago, i used to produce my own dance music, one day my harddrive just completely died, lost a track i had worked on for two weeks solid, plus a ton of other stuff, never again, it drove me mad losing my work. :)

    Good for you, however if you are serious about your directory then it would be a good idea to still take manual backup yourself, once in a while.
