StumbleUpon SUDDEN Traffic Surge

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by PlateFish, Mar 26, 2008.

I used stumble upon to generate traffic by stumbling all the articles i have written on my Main Forum Website and then little free websites that link to the main one.

I got an absolute huge surge of traffic. In the first day i had 150 UVs from getting about 5 UVs a day the day before. The next day i had 120 UVs and then 100 UVs.

Ocasionally i'd suddenly get 60-70 people all viewing one sub forum and slowly they'd leave (with noone signing up incidently). However, it has died down a lot now.

I want to know how stumble works and why it's surged like it did. How can i get more traffic like this??

the traffic from stumble upon is useless. Its not targeted and most ppl just keep click stumble leaving after a couple of seconds.

I've heard that SU traffic can be profitable but I don't know to turn it into cash.

1-) it can be profitable if only you have a eyecatching logo or design. Because stumblers visit web sites very quickly and you need to let their eyes catch your content or site for future visit.
2-) It's not effective but it helps you to have a high alexa rank. This is an important point in web business...

Thanks sickoo. Hopefully making my blog live tonight and getting it as the home page. I'm sure I can get some sort of interesting stuff other than poker on there.

jeeze - i get maybe 2/3 a day from SU, but then i've only stumbled my homepage and one product listing page... the traffic is 99% worthless though.

SU traffic is certainly not the best in my opinion but it is good if you have a blog and want future readers. At least I have come across a few blogs that I now read regularly after finding them through SU.

You sure that traffic wasn't the yahoo bot in a forum searching? Perhaps cause of the Easter holiday the traffic was a little off compaired to normal day's of the week. People take vacation's and breaks from normal routines...

course it is. and it can be misleading too - what's the point in getting 1000 counted visits if they only stayed for 10 secs and didn't do anything?

How do you define "targeted traffic" ?

SU users are mainly looking for entertainment.

Now, if your website is about entertainment (with quality content), of course they will stay because your content matches their interests.

If your website is about "make money online"... Well, needless to say the traffic is not targeted for YOUR niche. It doesn't mean the traffic is not targeted for other niches though.

    Common sense.

I literally just got (98 viewing) in my general discussion thread and (1 viewing) for just 1 other forum. They slowly leave but ocasionally they'll hang around, usually each guest views 6 pages on average before leaving. + Affiliates they might find interesting.

I figure the SU traffic will be better when i get my blog up.

I think you should keep stumbling so that people know about the website and make it familiar.

i haven't read into SU's TOS. But i am literally making sites around my site for free and linking to my main site then stumbling the free sites and the articles i post on ezine etc etc. I'm stumbling SO many sites with backlinks to my site, is it not illegal spam or something?

That's actually a pretty minor SU surge. Today I had a post (http://blogbadly.com/social-bookmar...n-diggstumbleupongeneric-bookmarking-website/) and it has had over 1500 hits and counting (thumbs up it please, btw :p). SU traffic is definitely not consistent but it's a nice way to get some visits every day.

SU works by bringing users to a page. If they click the thumbs up, the page gets more traffic. If they click thumbs down, traffic generally halts or greatly decreases. The longer you've been a member of SU, how many pages you've Stumbled, and how many fans you have affect how powerful your initial Stumbles are. That's basically an overview.

    Any other more specific questions?

For a site that gets 1 or 2 UVs a day and then to race up to 150 in 1 day is a huge increase. Remember my site hasn't been around for long at all.
