Dishonesty in the Web Hosting Industry

It is a good thing to be honest to your clients ad a hosting company but from some of the posts I have seen, some providers are being dishonest.

For example, some hosts say that they own or rent a dedicated server but in all real facts they have a master reseller account that doesn't even have close to the amount of resources of a dedicated server.

I have also noticed that some providers are offering services for a yearly or lifetime contract when they know themselves that they will only last a few months.

Finally I have noticed that some hosts say they have been in business for over 5 years etc, even though there domain name is only a few weeks old. Please don't come up with the lame excuse that you were running under another domain, this just points out that you have failed before so you will probably fail again.

All of the above is dishonest and if you see a company which is doing this, you should point them out so less people get scammed. Remember, if an offer is too good to be true like $5 life time host, then it is too good to be true and is most likely a scam.

    Thankyou,
    Luke

Agreed! I may want to add, there is no such thing as "unlimited" space or bandwidth. These are scams. Also don't believe in anything that promise over 100 GB of bandwidth. In my experience, if you need this much you most likely need a dedicated server. Most hosts will suspend you for anything written in their TOS.

If I were you, I would always ask for a phone #, and call it! Make sure it works. Most give a random number. At least this assures you that your host isn't ran by some 16 year old...

Which is extremely annoying, because you warn them about the host but then think they have a right to whinge for some reason.

Rightly said. These Scammers Exist Because of one reason:people Go with them

I mean, 10$ lifetime is crap.a server costs minimum around 20-25$ monthly and how can they provide 10$ lifetime??

but people still go with them.they close one after a Few complaints and then start again.
the only thing what happens is that people lose money and The proper hosting Business suffer.

I agree! If someone gives you a life time offer, you know its fake! A low priced yearly cost is still believable, but not a life time offer!

As for the age thing, I have a friend who used to run a hosting business. He was like 14? But he earned alot. The thing here is, whatever the age, they should know what they are doing!

It takes two hands to clap, one side offer ridiculous pricing, it also take the client to be greedy enough to buy unlimited bandwidth and web space for peanuts.
