Hello, I came across a site that is using the posts on DP and treating them as if they were posted to their site. I know that this is common practice for alot of forum webmasters, to use feeds or something to take the content from one vbulletin forum and add it to another. I normally don't have a problem with it, the info I post here is usually free game as far as I'm concerned, public property, except when it is a sales thread. One of my domain name sales threads is now on this guys site, probably more, I havn't looked yet. This sale is long over and in-fact the names are two of the domain names that were scammed/stolen from me by someone who had hacked into a DP member account. In my sales thread on DP, there are many, many posts after the original post that state that the names were stolen and if anyone is offered them, to report it to me. Check it out here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=695456 The other forum only took the first post, so it looks like they are still for sale and even worse, it looks like the admin is the seller. I feel sort of like my identity is being used w/o my permission in this case, promoting something for sale that is no longer for sale. Here is the "other" forum post: http://www.talkblogging.com/blog-ca...0-wts-zmul-gjrf-llll-com-sale-bin-prices.html _______________________________________________________ What do you think? Should other forums be allowed to take and post DP BST threads on other forums? Especially after the sale actually happened?
it appears DP's thread free rss are displayed into a forum. Most forums or most do with any rss contents. For normal situations, it will be just displaying but however since the case of yours involve stolen domains and such, it forces an guest to actually reply. however I still think its ok since DP freely give away rss. however it may not be ok from few view points as well.
That website is just content scrapping. Similar to my project (Beta) dpfilter.com I spoke to Shawn and he did not have a problem with it.
Well just a thought but I don't think the B/S/T threads should be scraped.. Maybe I'm wrong but I just seems a little mis-leading to copy that section, in some situations, not all.
There are many sites doing that, they usually appear for a short while till get sandbox'ed to bottom of the hell. Not exactly the smartest idea to duplicate a broad content just like that when G has such an algo.
I mean the guy who owns that forum is trying to make fun of you or something like that as I have never seen something like this before. Perhaps a friend of yours contacted him so they can make a fun of you? Who knows! Good luck Olgi
I'm sure that's not the case.. lol Where did you think that up from? lol. I think it's just a website owner stuffing his forum with DP posts via an RSS feed.. But thanks for the clarification.
Yes i saw other threads which were identically like here so its not the case I could do something like that to my friends just for some fun so you know .... imagination ....
But what is happening to various archivers and search engine cache? There are copies of everything being made on the net all the time. This however can be fixed with robots text and rss removal.
