There is no difference in a website and blogger blog really. You can earn the same money and get even better ranking in search engine because Google loves blogger. The only drwaback is the .blogspot domain which really does not matter unless your site is very very popular and people remember the name.

I make well over $150 dollars a month on blogger. No restrictions. All you need is good content, and a slightly different template. A domain also works very well. As previously mentioned content is king, you will get traffic, being dugg is achievable. Good content will win. Don't make a spam site. Proper content and you will prosper. I am planning on expanding on the number of posts I make over the next couple of months to bring in more traffic.
The earning from a blogger is always less than a website (imo) because you are handicapped with the blogger with regard to ad placement. You are free to do anything with a full fledged website.
to me it doesnt matter whether you do with blogger or paid hosting. its the contents that counts. using blogger at least you minimise your cost. im sure some big bloggers will move to a paid hosting once they get reputable.
