Hi, Anyone know of a good review/rating script with a nice modern look to it. The best I've found so far is the Five Star Review script, but would like to know if there are any others that you can recommend. Thanks. Rich
Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. I tried out Pligg and couldn't quite get it to work. I am not sure why, but I do notice that there are a steady stream of bugs that are fixed/resurfaced each release. Right now, I am experimenting with Corank at links.links.com, but it doesn't have the flexibility that I am looking for. Yesterday, I came across Jreviews. If anyone has experience with this product or something similar I would be interested in your experiences. Rich
richrf, I am also looking for solid review scripts. I've tried high five review script (designmind.co.uk). Good script but doesn't allow private labelling, which is very unfortunate. You should read the license terms & conditions carefully. Jreviews looks good....Does anyone have any experience with this script?
Here is a link to the demo for the latest Five Star Review Script: http://www.trade-review.com/review/index.php User login: User - test Pass - test Admin Login: http://www.trade-review.com/review/admin/ User - webmaster Pass - 4tugboat fibonacci81 - Private labeling is available. Hope you like it! Tim
Hi, Jreviews looks pretty nice and gets excellent support. However, it means that I have to enter the world of Joomla and all of the machinations associated with it - e.g. bugs, 1.5 compatibility testing, as well as the headaches using zend or ioncube. It would be too much of a headache for me. I think I am going to design my own and have someone write it. The other scripts I ran across had too many issues. Rich
Hi, Just wanted to say I actually like the script. In my opinion it is a problem because they only sell a version which "talks" back to their server. Check their forums for lots of folks who've had trouble in the past with their sites going down when the licensing server is not available or changes are made to the code. Also, have a client who purchased it in the beginning, an unlimited license, private labled, without the restrictions of calling home to a server. Has emailed the developer several times about asking about this issue to see if there could be a workaround for folks that supported the script early on, and had the versions without the calling home features, but can't get any response from the support team there. Anyway, it's too bad as it looks like a viable script, but without answers to support and the above issues, I am researching other scripts right now for my client. Additionally, I've heard many times over the past 10 years about developers "promising" that if they ever got out of the business etc, they'd disable the server checking features etc. Not good enough IMO, too many things happen "unexpectedly" for me to be able to recommend that you base a business around someone else's server being up and running and/or someone making promises that they can't keep. Ie: health reasons have forced many a person out of business and/or accidents etc. Life's short sometimes and prepare for the unexpected.
Hi, There is no longer a license issue. When I integrated the license system, I hired the folks over at phpaudit to integrate their licensing system into the review script. Apparently there was a bug in their code that prevented the local key from being used. Last week I found that bug and the license will now work whether or not my server is up. That's a huge relief to have that fixed! About your client, please have him/her email me at and I'll get them taken care of asap. Thanks cruising79, Tim
A clarification to these comments: Your client emailed me on Feb. 25th. I replied on Feb. 26th. He then sent the same email on on March 1st to which I also replied. Apparently he is not getting my emails. I replied again just now. I also forwarded the email headers to show that he has been receiving prompt replies! Tim
Hey Tim, Just got an email from my client and they did receive the email you sent yesterday, but did not receive the emails you mentioned prior. So to update this thread, it looks like the developer of the script was very responsive to client concerns and has said that the licensing issue has been addressed, which is a very good move in my opinion. For anyone considering a review script, I think this one has some very good features. Thank you Tim for getting back to my client so quickly. I may recommend your script to some other people I'm working with now that I know some changes have been made.
Hi, I looked at this script many times, but I can't figure out what I am getting. The site is very confusing, which makes me a little tentative about the script. I am still looking for a good review script and am willing to pay for a nice clean script. Rich
Hi Rich, I just started to use www.review-script.com from Tim (Great guy-great script). Check it out here: www.reviewmyride.com I am right in the middle of making it look how I want it to etc..., but I put that link here to show you what else can be done with Tim's script. I'd recommend www.review-script.com if you're still looking...
Hi Rich, Take a look at the demo and everything you see is exactly what you get with the script (minus the demo data and the Private Messaging System). http://www.trade-review.com/review/index.php User login: User - test Pass - test Admin Login: http://www.trade-review.com/review/admin/ User - webmaster Pass - 4tugboat bertamus11 - thanks for the endorsement. Your site is looking nice! Tim
Hi, Thanks for the reference. The script looks very good but it doesn't seem to have the features and look and feel of Jreviews, e.g. drill down into different categories and finding most viewed and most highly rated within each category. Thanks for the recommendation. Rich
built2go (http://www.built2go.com) restaurant review script can be customized to review any topic/category. All fields can be changed within the admin: http://php-restaurant-review-scripts.built2go.com/index.php/67
Hi, Thanks for the link. Can you provide me with some reference sites that are using your script? Also, do you have a support forum in place? Thank you. Sincerely, Rich
