You can have your religion all you want but you shouldn't be allowed to affect someone else's surgery. This should be a simple fix, choose not to go to an unclean establishment. Unfortunately in the UK with the medical system you have to take what you get. You should be able to spend your money and push innovation with your pocketbook.

More importantly, it is taxpayer money that finances their studies.
"These students are being trained using taxpayers' money and they have a duty of care to their patients not to put their health at risk.

In such a situation, maybe they should be assigned to other jobs that do not affect the safety of the patients. The health of a patient is paramount in a hospital and all steps should be taken that such that they are not infected in anyway.

If the medical students does not understand that, I feel it would be better for them to look for a different career that can allow them to practice what they want without endangering others.

following the hygiene protocols is part of the job's required skills. Any reason (lack of skills, religion etc) not to do it makes you unsuited for the job. How about a Jeovah witness in charge of the blood transfusion service...

    It's simple really.
As a doctor you put the welfare of your patients before everything else. If you can't do that then you take up a different career.

Nobody cares what women do. People care when a Muslim doctor refuses to properly wash her hands endangering others.

I wouldn't expect you to understand basic medical hygiene, but I am sure most everyone else here sees the issue with no problem.
