It is normally a grey area when it comes to China, copyrights are still kinda hard to impose in that country.

It's not random, you should search in Google.cn, but not Google.com

Does BAidu being number one there instead of google have anything to do with censorship issues?

Unless Google offers MP3 search (which obviously would never happen), Baidu is going to keep that No1 spot in China...

Baidu is currently ranked 3rd in the world, check our blog post:

    A couple of things.

    SB literally means "Stupid C*nt".

That's why someone might get particularly offended if you said that Chinese manufacturers are making "shabby" products.

Low quality, or inferior in English, but something much more pointed and direct in Chinese.

And anyone who thinks Baidu isn't a SERIOUS threat to Google can't see the whole picture clearly.

A rebranded copy of the Iphone hit the streets in China within DAYS of the real iphone being released, and at about 1/3 of the price.

Anything Google can do well, Baidu will reverse engineer and do too.

Baidu can do things that google can't do well.

Baidu has access to the largest and fastest growing consumer base in the world, and has established first movers advantage in that market, and branded themselves as "search" in the same way that Google has in the west.

And they're not limited to China.

Right now Baidu is #3 or #4 in Japan (a HUGE, and affluent consumer base) and growing.

If anyone thinks that Google's going to overtake Baidu, or that Baidu isn't going to SERIOUSLY hurt googles expansion, take a look at QQ.

Chinese people almost use qq exclusively for Chat, and PAY for premium services like icons and bling or whatever, when MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and whatever else are available for free.

    Why?

    Because it's Chinese.

Because the default (and only, I think) language is Chinese.

    Because they know their market.
