Anyone who's really serious about their directories and wanting to keep the highest level of maintenance should have a read of the latest blog made at Cantufind Directory Maintenance It is admittedly a long read but one of the best blogs I've read for a good while. Hope its of benefit to at least some.
Then the objective of the blog has already been achieved Mikey, even if one person picks up on something and finds it useful its all worthwhile.
Hello... Its standard policy for any of our editors to do a "monthly validation" check on sites within their given directory and update any sites that have changed. regardless a good read... Also added the cantufind directory to our paid directory list and hope to send some sales that way soon thx malcolm
Just to let you know that its made up of ex DMOZ editors and I'm proudly one of them. BTW Nice read on the blog. It really worthwhile.
Problem is that webmaster sites change daily... Especially FREE listings they submitted as one day its about selling microchips and tomorrow it becomes about selling sunglasses. Most companies that have been around for a few years only change the templates or add pages info ect ect and not the entire site so checking them is actually just a verification that its still active. thx malcolm
It's a great feature to have and can help a lot, especially if you fall behind like some do. (I get to test all sorts of methods for all sorts of software so know which one you mean here). The thing is with this kind of blog is that it wakens us up to how diligent we should be, and the fact that most of us have the tools (built in features) to help us maintain our directories so there is really no excuse for not using them. As the blog said Kevster, there are lots of ways to organise your housekeeping, the feature you pointed out being just one of them. @Malcolm; sorry you posted as I was typing. Your absolutely right that sites can change daily, this is why I think that there should be a method created to help better manage this. Perhaps if we posted replies to the blog making this clear to the author we can all work together to devise a strategy that takes things into account that might not have been addressed by the Author.
damn you reminded me i need some new sunglasses too lol I have to stop coming here all this extra work But seriously its good to hear from the big guns out there cheers for all the info guys
Sad to know ... I am hoping you asked the designer of the template for the permission to change the text from domaining.in to templates and paid Chris of Alive money to remove his sponsor link.... Just SAD.....
That's a Charity Directory. Listed sites are of Charity Organization and what's SAD about that ? It's not even making money for any submissions. But if it bothers your spine I'll ask the Editor in Chief to change the template.
It does not give you a right to violate the terms of service if you are running a directory that contains charity. Its not about bothering my spine ... It is about what is right and what is not. While I appreciate the good work that you are doing for the society by making a resource of charity ... you should appreciate the good work I put into that design and put the links there. Didn't expect this from you once again ... and that is whats sad..
It clearly does bother smub, and it's admirable of you to take moves on this. @Smub; I know you don't want to hi-jack an otherwise good thread so I'd appreciate it if you'd air your personal issues with popotalk via p.m. Thanks
surprised to see how admiring it was when he ripped the template and now he is restoring it. sorry for interrupting the quality discussion which was already at the bottom of the page when i checked it carry on Jamie
No problem Smub, I'm not taking sides on this, it has nothing to do with me, I just want these type of threads to move forward as they should. Thanks
