I know this is a pretty broad question, but how do you guys go about managing your client accounts, so in other words how do you guys generally go about setting them up and everything?

I mean do you just have them create an account then manage it on a monthly bases and provide them with reports every month?

Seems like managing client accounts can take some responsibility thats for sure we have been managing affiliate sites and etc, but it seems to me offering PPC management as a service can most certainly take some dedication and responsibility it don't seem to be something that's more auto pilot if you know what I mean.

I work for a relatively young PPC Management firm. We create, manage and report on our clients acccounts. Without going into too much detail, this is how we do it:

Try to understand the client by meeting and discussing what they want to achieve, ROI, as many Clicks as poss etc.

Read and interact with their site.

create a keyword list using Excel, Sandbox and Google suggestions, and a lot of thinking!

Set up the campaign with conversion tracking, daily budget, analytics, rotate ads, accelerated showing, auto tagging.

Use Relevant Adgroups with relevant keywords and landing pages and two or more (dependent on traffic estimates) Adverts that are totally different.

Set up a weekly campaign summary and Adgroup level summary. Send these to the client. Send a monthly report with detailed analysis.

Then check the campaign every morning. Every week, run search query reports, and adjust bids to make the budget last exactly the whole day.

Later on start to identify when they convert best/worst. Figure out the "Sweet Spot".

Test new adverts & drink lots of tea!

    Does anyone do anything different/better?

    Sweet!

That's what I was thinking something similar to what you just mentioned, but it does seem like managing PPC campaigns can take some work, dedication and responsibility, but I'd imagine after you get them going for the client there not much work involved similar to an affiliate site.

So do you guys generally do weekly reporting every week to show what has changed and etc such as bid prices and things to that nature?

Also if you don't mind me asking how many accounts does each employee usually manage I heard some firms allow there employees to manage as much as 50 accounts per person I think that would be a lot for someone thats newer of course.

Also when you said discussing ROI that can be a touch subject out of all honesty I mean wouldn't you agree thats something that can be hard to predict how do you guys generally go about that?

managing client accounts are full time jobs. Even once you get them up and running the job is not done. Once they are setup you need to start monitoring for efficiency. Finding new ways to enter the market, expend to different venues, manage ROI, increase or exceed ROI expectations, provide landing page development ideas, implement ideas, keyword expansion, negative research, bid optimize and the list goes on and is endless.

A client should never be on auto pilot, as soon as one is, they will cancel.

Why in the world would anyone want to manage someone elses account?

You can make a lot more running things for yourself. Very odd that people would ever consider such a pay cut.

You can get insight into new markets and strategies by managing other people's accounts - some of which may be applicable to your own accounts.

    There are several reasons

    1. Many big companies do not have the time to invest in learning PPC management, therefore they are willing to outsource the work to a professional who know what they are doing so they do not have to learn it themselves. This creates great income opportunities.

    2. Managing client account gives you a lot of experience in other markets and industries increasing your knowledge of the bigger picture of PPC campaign management. When you manage as many clients as I do, you can see similarities across many industries and you can also see when a single sided opinion is false because it doesn't apply universally.

    3. Managing client accounts allows you to run you own backend operations more efficiently learning for others mistakes.

This is why I am more experienced then you and why I disagree with many or most of your comments. Because you have a very small picture of PPC and insight to a very small demographic, while I see a bigger picture of PPC across many industries and across accounts small and big.
