Many marketers have a difficult time figuring out who their target audience is. Unless you can do this successfully, your business is doomed to certain failure.

If you're having a hard time figuring out who your target audience is, your website's analytics are the answer. Carefully analyze your statistics. Study the websites that your visitors arrived from, and the keywords they used to find your site. Analyzing your statistical data will not only tell you who's visiting your website, but where they go when they get there. For example, my log files indicate that the "internet marketing" category is the most popular destination on my website. This tells me that my visitors are most interested in information and products related to internet marketing. Ergo, that's my target audience.

This basic information is not intended as a "be all, end all solution" by any means. But it's more than enough to get you pointed in the right direction.

Yes analytics can be a great tool, but you should already know who your audience is before you start marketing something.
If you don't know who your potential audience is then you can't work out the correct tone of voice and channels for your media.

It is the same as doing your keyword research - if you don't do the research first you are just guessing.

If you already know who you are aiming at then analytics can tell you if you are hitting the spot or not.
