That IMEI number is vital. incase your cell phone gets robbed or stolen, u can report this number to tthe cops... they will spread it to the cell phone seelling market as to prevent it from being purchased...

While pressing same digits in my nokia cell. I got the information about the serial number. I am from India. Thanks. Here is a tip, dont knw whether it work in your country. However, it is working here in INDIA only on Nokia. If you press *#0000# You will get the info about the version of your mobile and the date of manufacturing. Give it a try
