How Much Should I Offer for This Domain?

I like to buy a domain for a local video site in my language, and I have come across a one word domain rende(dot)com which means something funny in Macedonian :) I think it is good and brandable, so I contacted the owner and he told me: if I should make a serious offer he would consider it seriously.

The domain is registered in 2003, but it is not developed at all, and I'm assuming it gets little to no traffic at all.

So how much should I offer to make him think about it seriously?

    What do you think?

At the moment, LLLLL sales are not that "hot". I often see $10-$20 BiNs.
That "serious offer" thing is a line to raise the bar from the beginning. You should play your cards right too.

I'd start with a $40-50 (if I'd really needed it), maybe negotiate after, if it would be the case.
After all, i bet that amount is at least 3-4 times more than he makes a month if parking. And it's almost the price of a cheap LLLL.

Only if it doesn't get good income from a "render" typo.

Again, it's just what I'd do. Maybe other forum members have more valuable opinions.

    Good luck.

Seems to be like a good domain..I dont think it gets much traffic but it does have some links and "rende" seems to be a wiki word. I would start by offering him $300-500 which he will not accept but it is a serious offer and it will get you talking to him, then you give him a final price a bit higher once he rejects your offer and gives you a price.. The again it depends how much you want to spend on it. Good luck!

thats what I was thinking but the guy seems to be asking $1800 for it.... hey maybe you should ask him for a minimum price and say to him that $1800 is way too much.

I have no idea what rende means but if it's a good brandable name start with someting around $50-100. I mean if he've had it since 03 he could probably have it a few more years.

How much are you ready to give?

He's asking $1800. IMHO a "serious" offer would be at least $600...then wait for a counter offer.

Wow so many nice replies guys, but many different points? how did you find out that he is asking 1800$ ?
That is sure way too much for my budget, maybe I should start thinking about another name right now..

I was about to offer something like the first replier said, Khael, and maybe go till 100$ but not more. Well I so much of my brandable name, guess I should start thinking about another. Rende.tv is available also and since my site will be video related, I'd better get rende.tv its a bit salty price for yearly payment, but I guess it will pay off more?

Thanks for all of your good replies!

    $1800 IS WAY TOO MUCH.
Even for a premium 5L, even if aged.

This domain had a few "travel"/"motel" pages in 2003.
    From 2004 it's been parked.
    It's not developed.
    It's not advertised.
    It has no backlinks.
    Expires soon.
Probably has none to low revenue.
If it were a GREAT domain, by now I assume the guy would have renewed it, which he didn't.
He just saw an opportunity when you asked.

$1800 could bring this man way more profitable domains. And you too, hecto.

I totally agree with dmi on this one. A max of $100 ($200 if you're really desperate) would be more than enough.

You said you wanted the domain for the Macedonian translation. How much revenue would this Macedonian translation generate? Do your math, ask yourself how much can you afford to pay. If you can afford it, do as your heart pleases you. If not, I bet that there are lots of "Macedonian" names available for a reg fee.

    Your call only.

Later edit: If it's video, TV could be a solution. Just keep in mind, COMs show up way better in search engines.

Well Khael I guess this sums it up all, thanks.
I will get myself the rende.com.mk domain for my purposes and forget about rende.com it is just too much, I think the domain is way overrated by its buyer and its just not worth it.
Even for 100$ I could make a nice little promotion of my site here in Macedonia instead of buying that one.

Learned a lesson about trading domains here though, you guys seem to know your game well :)

Best regards to all who replied, thanks!

FYI, estibot values the domain at $6,900. Also, there are close to 15million google results for the word. A one-word domain that is short and has so many results is going to be very valuable, it's also a town in Italy.

Oh didn't know that, ok maybe it has value much more than I expected, but I cannot afford that 1,800$ or even 6,900$ ? Maybe someone else could do something out of that domain, but I sure cannot afford it, not for what I intended to do with it.

i love the people who valuate because it's 5 letters... owner is pretty well known, id be surprised if he let it go so cheap especially considering it's a geo domain of a city of 30k-60k. if he said 1800 to you sounds like a great deal to me.

If you think $1800 is too much then just try as high you are willing to go, if he does not accept it he does not and you can go on with the .com.mk domain.

If he accepts your low offer, then you get the domain and for the price you wanted.. never hurts to make an offer

Yeah well I'm not into domain trading, all I know about it is from what I read around DP from time to time, so I don't really know how to rate a domain's worth thats why I asked you guys for advice.

Johan maybe you are right, I should make an offer and see if that guy has a sense of humor :)

I will buy the local domain anyway, so if it doesn't go I can always use it.

The guy you are approaching runs www.PPCIncome.com he isn't new or stupid, so lowballing will probably just get you ignored.
