If reciprocal link building can be done that is fantastic. If exchange is with theme related. Theme matching should me 99 %. If you get a link from your relevant theme and from that keyword which is in that site from there you are getting a link back then your site can be get a position in search engines. Try it you will find results yourself. It is my own experience.
Don't really know how to rate them... but for me... All that works is CONTENT!! oops! We don't have this option here... So I guess once you have some good quality content... then Article submission and Social Book marking Site Submission should be the highest scorers
I think it varies by niche, as I've never once read a press release... Though, I'd like to add in content = 5 and that is something that should cross over to all niches. While it might be a bit slower then the others, the links generated by people actually liking the page is simply top notch!
I would like to add in posting in forums, not sure exactly where it would go, maybe after content. But posting in forums can really build up your links and traffic.
I agree with Webdrop, link building doesn't do squat if you don't have good content that is keyword rich, to both get the traffic from search engines, and then also have people wanting to come back.
i think social bookmarking is overrated. Maybe i'm missing something, if so, I'd appreciate enlightenment from someone here, but sites like SU, Digg, seem only good for temporary boosts in traffic. Long-term SEO seems to lie with the other options.
Many people can not see beyond tomorrow. So you are correct, or at least mostly correct. Getting the top page on Dig, or getting some massive traffic from SU can result in your site being bookmarked on other places, or even simply bookmarked. At other times it can result it your site being blogged about or shared on some random forum. But then, ONLY if your page is actually worthy of being up on a social bookmarking site. If it's just crap that gets artificial boosts from exchanges, then that is where the extent of such perks end. Use the systems as they should be used, and you run the risk of them actually working in the long term
