You also insert the below code into your robots.txt file, it's the sitemap directive. This allows search engines to locate your sitemap via your robots.txt file. Search engines like Ask.com "only" use this method to locate a sitemap.

    sitemap: http://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

    Yes, that's right.

If you've done it right, type www.yourdomain.com/robots.txt and you will see your robots.txt file.

Well, as long as the search engines can find the new pages through your normal links, you don't need to.

But if you create the new sitemap and submit it, the search engines that you submit it to will know that you've added it. (It won't guarantee indexing, though.)

I am having another issue. I used a PHP jump script, it's working fine, however, Google indexed one of the redirects in the "omitted search results section". I have my robots.txt file setup so it won't index my folder containing the PHP script, even Google Webmaster Tools said it there was an exlusion in the robots.txt file.

    Why is this happening?

    Check it out:

Last result on the bottom of the page....

    Guys, I need your help.
I already have my Site Map generated and saved in my PC in my Documents, now I just need to FTP upload it, and when I try to do it I can't because I need to fill the space for the PATH TO FILE, I mean, I have my FTP server correct, username and password, but I don't know what to put on the Path to file space because I don't know where to look for it because I don't know what it is.

Could you guys be kind enough to help me with this request? :D :D :D

Thanks, I will be forever grateful.

    Questions from me are :
    1. once i updated my web site twice or thrice a day. Is there any effect if I resubmit my sitemap in G webmaster tools every time I update the site?
    2. does it mean that you invite G crawler to index your pages "instantly" or just tell G about the updates and G crawler will come to index your pages depends on time stated in the "changefreq" tag value?

    Thanks in advance :)

    http://www.sitemaps.org/protocol.php#xmlTagDefinitions

Has stated it's considered more of a hint than a command. Updating your xml sitemap with new web pages is the best way to help Google find them beyond backlinks to that specific web page.

    Hi

I submitted the sitemap for my site over a month ago and under 'What Googlebot sees it still says this:

"Data is not available at this time. Please check back later for statistics about your site."

I know from my logs that it is crawling everyday (it has crawled 22,000 pages) and has indexed around 6,000 but according to sitemaps - it has nothing.

I am guessing this is due to a lag in the time it takes to update the various servers but was wondering if anyone knows how long it should take before I should see some 'data'.

    Thanks!
