I have had some proxy sites up for a few weeks now, most of them are not doing to bad, the majority of them have 200 visits a day. Recently one of my proxys has been going up and received 2000 visits daily the majority of this traffic is from iran 60-70% Is it wise to allow this. That site its making around 5-7 dollars aday, so in my mind i dont really mind where the traffic is coming from is there any legal issues i have to worry about, being from the Uk when i hear the name Iran it isnt one of the worlds favourite countrys eh. So should i block traffic from these type of countrys and spend months trying to get usa/uk/aus/europe type of countrys. So my qeustions are: How do you value a proxy site if you want to sell it? Where are the best places to advertise? (Ive strayed away from proxy listing sites unless ive had a free offer as the majority of them have a low traffic rank themselfs, ive also tried yahoo groups etc) Is it normal for these sites to take up over 100gig a month with low amount of daily visits? Any legal issues i have to watch out for? I should of looked into this first but now i have 7 sites up and running im going to take more notice
Proxy sites depends on traffic to monetise it. Add alexa tracker to see if it is worth your time first. Iran does not mean bad business. check yr query links. Best regards azrin
My friend, you have to worry and stop imediatly the traffic coming from Iran? You could have serious problems with CIA or FBI ,as they use your proxy site they use your IP ,and they could visit some places in USA .... wich can make you problems! You will find your self acused for sponsoring terorrism while you have no idea what is all about.
I wish it was a joke! i just contacted a webhost for a new reseller account as my actual host dont wish to host proxy sites anymore, and i asked them if they accept such sites before i sign up and pay! They told me that they dont host proxy after the bad experience they had! they said that users use them to read hack... and as about Iran, i was searching my keywords on google to see how my sites doing, and i found strange links that promote my sites and i never exchanged links with them or ever know them, they all were from Iran! They were telling others to use my sites as they still new and not banned, banned from what i dont know! As you dont know what the user will do with your proxy wich has your server IP and that user is from Iran,Iraq, Afganestan ,i think you should worry, cause they could hack some institutions and departments with your IP.
Don't be silly. The US government pours a lot of money into schemes to provide proxies and other filter-bypass technologies for people in Iran and similar countries. I have worked on projects funded by State Department grants for that very purpose. This is no secret, you can find RFPs all over the place. Surfers in Iran are looking for two things: news and porn. Neither of these is going to get you in trouble. There isn't enough technical sophistication in most of the isolated countries to have a whole lot of serious hacking going on.
It does not matter at all. Not sure what this other guy is going on about fbi and cdi and fty or whatever Will.
I don't agree 100 % with the comment made , i think Iran and other countries ... can be dangerous in some circumstances, they can use the the proxies for this purpose - terrorism , access sites about artisanal bombs , explosives... e.t.c and share informations about this using proxies.
Who do you think is doing this? Do you get your security policy knowledge from old episodes of "24"? If you think Iran's government sponsors terrorism, then why would someone there need to use a proxy to learn about making bombs? Wouldn't the Ministry of Terror set them up with a brand new computer and a nice fast connection? In fact, why would they need a web site at all? Couldn't they just ask Reza and Mehdi for some tips next time they saw them in the canteen? In actual fact, almost all the people who are learning about bombs from the internet are in western countries.
for any script or site, check webstats awstats, webilizer and other stats sotwares record the sites or if you rent server, check apache or server logs
I don't know , i don't live in Iran but some countries are a risk for proxies, in this countries anyone can be a terrorist even a child, still dangerous and it's only my personal opinion you can see here something related : http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/03/19/binladen.message/index.html
LOL The freedom of speech is very poor in socialist-Sweden, so that's a funny remark from someone living in Sweden. At least, imho.
The big thing is that generally Iranian traffic doesn't give near enough money for the bandwidth that they use. Plus, you can be held responsible for their actions. I remember that someone had to pay $500 to ebay to reimburse a bunch of sellers who were scammed through his proxy.
