H1 Tag Help After Site Redesign

I have a site that was redesigned around the end of Jan. My goal was better navigation and a cleaner html code. Well the last few weeks I have lost my rankings for a keyphrase that brought a lot of traffic to my site. (I know a little about seo, and a little about html, not a pro in either) I noticed that my site does not have any h1 tags. I do see something like this for h2, h3:

    <h2 class="replace" id="tit_promo"><span></span>KeyWord Text Here</h2>

Do you think not having an h1 tag is hurting me?

i highly doubt you lost your ranking just because of not having a H1 tag. i myself dont even use any H1 tag as it looks ugly on my site. add more content and get some more backlinks

H1 does help, but I dnt think it is the cause. There has been many changes going on search engines specially google i think you need to add more content with your keywords and have more back links.

Did you know that you can use CSS style to format your H1 tags so they don't break lines and look however you want them to??? For example :

    <H1 style="display:inline; color:#009900; font-size:12px;">MyText</h1>
    Code (markup):
that code will make your H1 text at 12 pixels high and will supress the normal H1 linebreaks.

@glorybeme - H1 tags do have some impact on your SEO work but as with all things related to SEO, if you over-use them, it can hurt you.

Using h1 and other tags like h2 are loved by Google .. but using them 2 much may result in loosing importance of your tags in Google's eye !!
