I was just wondering if anyone has an answer to this issue. I have customers that have sent me testimonials. On one hand, if I publish their names and locations along with their testimonials, new customers can see that I do nationwide business and the testimonials "feel" like real people. On the other hand, would anyone consider it a violation of their privacy if I publish their complete name (including title), city, and state along with their testimonial? The testimonials are much more convincing if you can see their complete name and location. I am definitely not going to publish their exact address or email address, but where is the line generally drawn?
I have seen a couple of testimonials that even include with phone number. So it depend on the person itself if it against their privacy or not. So, why don't you just ask them if it all right to include their name and address in your testimonials.
I think you'll need to find out from each customer. A company that I do business with, asked if they could use my info and I gave permission but specified what pieces of my data could be made public. I would have been very upset if they had publicised my information without being aware of it. If you don't have the time to contact all, maybe just a first name and state. Full name, city and state seems to be too specific to me.
Why don't you ask them if you can do this? If I sent you a testimonial, and you put up my last name and where I lived, I wouldn't be too happy. For most, if not practically all people, it IS a privacy issue. This is the Internet, cousin. ... The land of the fruits and nuts.
