"Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is an update to Windows Vista that addresses feedback from our customers. In addition to previously released updates, SP1 contains changes focused on addressing specific reliability and performance issues, supporting new types of hardware, and adding support for several emerging standards. Windows Vista SP1 also addresses some management, deployment, and support challenges."

I've downloaded the RC before and it seemed like it made Vista a lot faster but I went back to XP because I didn't like the fact that the vista SP1 had the word release candidate in it.

yeah, i saw that one...was hoping there was somewhere that actually gave details and not just a cookie cutter response with the definition of any software upgrade :D

i'll keep looking, thanks though :D

Nothing changes with SP1, I got it on one Vista laptop and I can't say I see "any improvement". Trasfer speed with windows 2003/windows home server is about the same - I dont see the 300% speed improvement Microsoft claim SP1 will deliver. Media Center update - no noticeable difference. Bitlocker - I dont use it, since I read it's not as secure as Microsoft say...

Can you give us your testing methodology? Also the link you read about Bitlocker.

I think this will help get corporate acceptance to Vista. I know that most large corps won't use a MS product until at least SP1 comes out. I know as a computer repair technician, that most people aren't as interested in Vista, the hardware requirements are the problem.

I didn't use any tools to benchmark the performance, 300% increase would mean - 1/3 of the time it usually takes to copy file to/from WHS. Well, it's not true... I notice random system locks for 1-2 seconds, which weren't here before SP1. No new software is installed on this laptop.

Hates Vista, but still use it. Because my laptop has it pre-installed. And all the drivers are for Vista.

Can't wait to try SP1. Hope it will improve Vista.

    Thanks

hmm...Its not giving me the SP1 update. I've downloaded all the updates including optional updates and none of my hardware is listed on their incompatible list. :/

I just put the service pack on, and it installed fine, but I'm not noticing much difference either - except that copying over the network is a little faster (two Vista machines). In terms of just using the PC itself, no changes here, that I've noticed anyway.

File copy/move/delete runs as fast as on XP. Also, it boots faster and consumes less memory.
