I have been trying to impose standards on what speech is acceptable from the beginning. In fact, It's practically the only thing i have been trying to explain to you. At no point have i said that all speech should be permitted at all times. Your mistake was to assume that i would be for unlimited free speech at all times in all places and with all speech. and really, Only a mad man would think such practices were acceptable.

There is much a difference between swearing in a school and protesting against inequality on a demonstration as there is between me not wanting you ranting in my thread and a religious group dictating what films i should watch in my own home.

Well then how do you reconcile that you don't support free speech (why am I *not* surprised) with the fact that you don't want anyone determining what you chose to watch or listen to?

    Isn't this a contradiction?

I thought I just advised you about Ad Hominem statements. Your attempts to discredit me, don't help you build a sound argument. Perhaps you should concentrate on that.

If someone can dictate what should be said in a school, then they can dictate what you watch in your home. That is known as the slippery slope.

Unless you can explain what the difference is... (and we finally make some philosophical progress)

If Muslims don't get violent then people will think the film was wrong.

If Muslims get violent then people will continue to believe that Islam breeds hate and violence.

I think Islam should be insulted on a regular basis so we can keep tabs on the progress. If fewer people die than when the cartoons were published then I'd say Islam is improving. If more people die then Islam is getting worse.

Christianity gets insulted all year long and there are zero riots or deaths. And there hasn't been for a very very long time. So when Islam reaches that point then we might start to believe the lie that Islam means "peace" instead of "submission."

You are having trouble understanding the difference between someone shouting obscenities in an inappropriate place and me being able to chose what films i want to watch? If you really need this simple point explained to you i will explain it, Though i think you are intentionally misunderstanding it just so you have something to post in a reply.

when someone shouts obscenities they are imposing their speech on people against their will, when i chose to watch a film i am making a conscious decision as an adult to be exposed to it.

People should be allowed to say whatever they want as long as others aren't forced to listen. When others are forced to listen we need limitations on what is said and standards that need to be adhered to.

There must be respect between religions, I hope churches will call Dutch film makers to ban the movie by themself.

It is not the churches that produce the movies, I doubt they would have such influence to enforce a ban. The Dutch govt themselves could do something, but till now I did not see any action on their end.

I know that it is not churches that produce the movie. But it is related to religions.. And churches are highly respected organisations and thier words, comments, points will be very helpfull to solve this situation.

Not necessarily, why not ask the Muslim leaders to cooperate and initiate a dialog with the film producers instead? Why ask the churches when it is more related to Muslim than to Christians?

Don't ban it. Anyone with a modicom of intelligence will realize that this is a biased anti-muslim point of view.

    Ignorance Breeds Hatred!!

This is just about the most ridiculous statement I have ever read. I am an American Catholic married to a Lebanese Muslim. He is the kindest most generous man I have ever know. (hasn't kicked the hell out of me once, even when I look at him wrong) You can't throw all muslims into 1 category - just like any other race or religion.

Not in the US. You have every right to make such a film and be ostricized for your idiocy.

There's a huge difference between making a film that denies reality and making a film that highlights the unpleasant facts about Islam.

"Respect" is not a reason to deny the problems that Islam brings. You can look at any Islamic country ruled by Sharia law to see what Islam is all about.

Should we "respect" Nazism and not talk about all the evil it brings?

    That's not "respect" that's stupid.

People make anti-Catholic, anti-Christian films. Why can't they make anti-Islam films?

Why not ask Muslim leaders to control their members so we don't have death and destruction everytime they're offended?

I am applausing https://www.networksolutions.com they have suspended the website. of movie, where they were planning to put online that movie

Dutch muslims are working on this problem too. Dutch Muslim association filed a legal claim asking a court to appoint a panel of censors to view the film before it is aired in order to see if there is a reason to ban it.

I am glad that none of Dutch TV broadcasted that movie.

Well at least Networksolutions save us a potentially explosive show downs.
By banning it themselves as a commercial decision, it would at least save the Dutch the problems of the government banning the film.

Shows how much you know.. No Islamic country has full Sharia law, only variations of it mixed with their own laws.

Have a sit down and think about the reasons for which they may ban the movie from airing on television (which wont matter because it will be released online anyway). If they do ban it, Do you think they will be doing it out of respect or fear? Will they ban it because they want to protect islams precious fragile feelings? Or will they do it to prevent there being a bloody violent backlash?

My money is on the later. And if that is the case, Is that something that you would really want? Would you really want a media company or panel of censors to base their actions on the fear they have of your religion?

IMHO I would agree on the latter. But there is already so much controversy and anger among the Muslim population because of the cartoon issues. I myself would hope that the film won't be release. It is time for conciliation rather than further splits.

Freedom of speech is important but I feel that engaging the Muslim populations and slowly get them into the mainstream is the crucial task at hand. You can't do it with so much controversies around. Not airing the film would help at least to tell them them we are sincere to engage them and understand their religion.

Sharia law allows for the murder of apostates.

There's nothing else that needs to be known about it.

Do the vast majority of Muslims object to the law that makes apostasy a crime punishable by death?

And if so, why do Islamic countries not reject that part of Sharia law if they reject other parts like you claim?

Not airing the film tells the extremists that we'll just ignore the problem and let them continue their murderous campaigns against western civilization.

Not airing the film would be like refusing to show pictures and videos of the holocaust because it might offend the Nazis and make them hate us.

Muslims should be offended at the Muslims that have supposedly hijacked their religion. Instead they get mad at people for pointing out that these "hijackers" exist.
