everything has to come to an end someday firefox isn't anywhere near version 9, though, like netscape so there's still a long life span for it, but it'll eventually go.
It depends, some lasted a long time like Microsoft and SAP. Netscape releases in the later years was quite flawed, thats why there were too many releases, Firefox releases seemed more more stable and reliable. As long as it maintain stable releases and catch up with the trends, I hope and expect Firefox to outlast Internet Explorer.
Luckily Firefox is gaining market share pretty well. I know that IE 8 has MANY problems, it might throw a wrench in MS plans. For instance Peachtree accounting, a major accounting system is incompatible with the changes that IE 8 makes to the operating system. There are other stories I have heard.
So sad... I used to use netscape since its beginning but later on it didn't quite compatible with many sites and IE blew it away like a storm and later on when FF came into the scene, it became the main... so netscape was totally forgotten, then even the main netscape site was hacked.. so it was a sign already.. RIP Netscape..
I can remember designing websites back then specifically for Netscape 4.7. The old rule of thumb was that if you could get it working on NS4.7 it would work with everything else. *sigh*
I used netscape beta... it was good for me... i am using firefox ... its the best browser... --Thanks...
I don't think that's a standard anymore, as it was in it's early days. It is worthly of note that was the first browser who supported JavaScript (Netscape invented JS). Now, noone uses Netscape.
I have fond memories of Netscape too. I use Opera and Firefox these days (still torn between the two for which is best). Sad to see it go, but it hasn't been 'common' for a long time
Agree, it's nice to see the torch passed to firefox. Remember mosaic before netscape? I remember sending netscape 17 bucks back in the day when they were starting out. I don't remember the reason; it was free to get, it might have been some kind of subscription. Anyway, I remember being happy to send them the $17 for providing such a useful product.
