Iraq invasion was "successful endeavor": Cheney

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney on Monday declared the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq a "successful endeavor" in a visit to Iraq that was overshadowed by a suicide bombing that killed at least 25 people.

"If you look back on those five years it has been a difficult, challenging but nonetheless successful endeavor ... and it has been well worth the effort," Cheney told a news conference in Baghdad after meeting Iraqi leaders ....

He's right for the oil companies, blackwater, Halliburton and etc. companies getting paid from having the war.
But not for me and at least 90% of the Americans and almost 100% for the Iraqis and 99.999% of the world.

Come on how can these people dare to show up in public after bringing such a disaster on Iraq, America and the world? You can't be happy if you wage a war which no matter how careful you lead will kill innocent children, innocent men and women. These people are cold hearted people, have no compassion for others they kill for money. Yeah, that's right this war was for money.
The recession America is in right now is a pay back bill for this unjust war.
BTW, When you go to vote for a president think about that. Just in case you don't know Hillary and McCain voted for the war.

The USA now has more than one airport and backup ground facilities in the middle east where permission is not required to take off or land a plane.

Should we need to kick some a** in that region we have a base of operations.

I feel a lot more secure than I did a few years ago.

    How do you define success?

Really? The chances of another 9/11 type attack are 100000x more likely than they were before september 11 or even a few years ago.

To some extent that is true because we have failed at border security. Failed dismally!

The country will not be safe until our borders are safe.

    We overthrew a ruthless dictator.
Women can now get an education.
    Men and women can vote.
We're disposing of civilian murdering terrorists daily.
Everyone has hope of a better life.

    Yeah, total failure.

Name a company that is qualified to do what Halliburton can do.

I find it interesting that in 5 years no one has named a single company that should take over Halliburton's job.

lololol...In a capitalist society like America... are you kidding ???

Schlumberger is its closest competitor followed by Baker Hughes, Tesco Corporation and Weatherford International.

    More wiki:

Halliburton is the only company mentioned by Osama bin Laden in an April 2004 tape in which he claims that "this is a war [in Iraq] that is benefiting major companies with billions of dollars."[19]

Internet pundit John Burnett has described Halliburton's deals as recalling a Vietnam-Era controversy. He claims Vice President Cheney's ties to the company are reminiscent of President Lyndon B. Johnson's relationships with Brown & Root

Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers
The War Tapes is a 2006 documentary filmed by actual soldiers during their deployment in Iraq. Notably, Halliburton is mentioned to be charging the USA $28 each for the disposable picnic plates given to the soldiers in the mess hall that their meals are served on.

Actually I take it back, you're right.

Nobody can rip off tax payers like us like Halliburton does.

So when was the last time you visited Iraq?

You're right, it was better when women were oppressed. Then they wouldn't have any chance of being shot.

Last I checked terrorists were running out of ammo and resorting to children and the mentally challenged.

So your entire objection to the Iraq war is not the facts but your assumptions.

You assume the elections are fixed.
You assume life is worse and will remain worse forever.
You assume women will get shot for getting an education.
You assume that the terrorists are benefiting from this.

    Pretty lame list of assumptions.

When's the last time you went to Iraq?

Halliburton is doing business in 120 countries and has been around since the 1920's. Every war benefits companies that take part in the rebuilding of countries.

So again, what company has the experience that Halliburton does in building up infrastructure? Ripping off tax payers doesn't make them any worse at their job. It just makes them more expensive.

Actually women didnt have to cover their heads before, but they do now.

Iraq has gone from being secular to more fundamentalist from what I have been reading.

In this regard, progress has not been made.

Another anti-American thread to add to the already growing cesspool.

Women do not have to cover their head now. It has not gone fundamentalist, despite the well wishes for such by some here.

That would be because of the "freedom fighters" everyone keeps talking about.

Saddam oppressed everyone under his iron fist. Now the terrorists want to do the oppressing. Until they're marginalized or whiped out that's not going to change.

Part of the success in Iraqi is doing a good job weeding out terrorists. That needs to continue until Iraqis can hold their own against them.

Uhm, no. I'm pretty sure it's the new government which is predominantly Shia and made up of extremists from the same group that bombed our Kuwait embassy.

Agreed. I fear that part of the success is what is so disturbing to *some* in this thread. They want success, just for a different side.

Btw Kalvin, I'm kind curious. Do you support the Iraqi Government that is made up of extremists who have bombed our embassy in Kuwait?

    Would you call that progress?

So you're saying that your objection to Iraq is that it is more economical to suffer a few local terrorists attacks that kill thousands of civilians (but not you of course) than to fight them.

Makes sense. Lots of companies think that way. They consider the cost of the fix vs the cost of litigation arising because of the problem.

    http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/02/05/iraq.lawmaker/index.html

Is that the lawmaker you're talking about? The one the Iraqi government is looking to get rid of? The one that has no real power?

Isn't amazing what one little letter can do? Suddenly one guy who's just trying to not get executed is suddenly a bunch of people making up a government.

Or were you talking about the democratically elected terrorist Hamas government that the US had no involvement with?
