Random Odd Facts site

This site displays random odd but true facts: www.oddfacts.info

It requires no database - the facts are listed in a text file that you can easily edit to add more - you can also include html coding to add links or images to each one if you want. You will see I added a photo to a couple items so you can see. There is 33 facts pre-loaded.

You can also allow others to insert your facts into their websites with a special javascript code that will display a random fact and a link back to your site.

Site is brand new with no traffic or revenue - domain has the full 1 year remaining. (registered at godaddy)

I forgot to mention that the random quote and random image calls are each just one line of code on the page - so you can easily redesign this site very easily and put them anywhere you want.

This would make a great weird news blog and just plug in the random quote and random image calls into the template somewhere as cool standing features.

 

Is there any way to make it so that all the facts would display before repeating?

Yes - you can make it random or sequential. I changed it to sequential just now so it will not repeat until it has gone through them all - that makes more sense for this site. Thanks - good question.

 

I am kind of surprised there are no bids on this yet. A site just like it but with a worse domain and lower quality script sold for $60 just the other day. I guess I will give it 48 hours and see what happens.

adutzu: It is not the same script - I wrote this one myself after seeing that site. That one used javascript for at least the image part - not sure about the facts. Mine is all php and only requires editing a text file to add/edit items.

Is it all php? Because you mentioned javascript in the opening post

 

It is all php. I actually am making one php file appear to be javascript so that other sites can use a standard external javascript call to include your facts on their sites - its a pretty cool trick!

But yes all php and I have separated the code functions into files that you do not have to touch and then there is one small config file where you just plug in the path to your fact file and image folder. Then the facts are added to a text file. Very easy for anyone to use!
