i recently lost my premium domain to a dishonest registrar. i hate what happened and it cost me lots of work and money. is it possible to pay and indeed use 2 or even 3 registrars for one domain? im sorry if this sounds stupid im new to this forum but i would be thankful for any advice on how to prevent malicious transfers by crooked registrars by any means possible. i have found a local registrar that is in my town but im very paranoid of using just one? they can claim i authorized the transfer to another party and scam me?...
If you're referring to Serbia domains, I don't know; but if you're referring to .COMs or the other major global TLDs, you can only have one registrar. If you're really paranoid and have enough money, you could become a registrar yourself (see http://www.icann.org/registrars/accreditation.htm).
No, you can only use one registrar per domain name. Just register your domain name with a reputable ICANN certified registrar and you should do fine.
i did use an ICANN registrar the only problem is they keep all the records and can edit any and all incriminating material that would prove they are thieves. no use complaining to ICANN when i dont have any physical proof it was all in the crooked registrars computer.
I guess what happened was the domain name was supposedly renewed, but it turned out it wasn't and it's subsequently taken by someone else? That what had occurred, atvking?
when i logged in to manage my account the expiration date for the renewal of my website was set to a later date than what i expected. i was fooled in to thinking this was some sort of promotion or freebie i had no reason not to trust the ICANN registrar even though i fully understand that domains are registered on a one year basis. i got EVERY spam e-mail from my registrar about "domain specials" but not one single e-mail that my premium domain was going to be sold. they had my credit card info and i did not dream they would sell my property without giving me even a hint of what is going on. fool that i am i did not check whois because it was ok 10.000x before i just assumed the registrar was going to either bill my card again or e-mail me in case anything goes wrong... when i eventually logged in to renew i was shocked to find that not only was my password "invalid" but also that my domain was sold!! it was a very good .com domain that i have been holding since 2001. the thieving registrar claims he sent me 90 days worth of warning e-mails and that there is nothing they can do being that they are counting the money from selling my property behind my back. the new owner wont even answer my e-mails and this leads me to believe he is in some sort of affiliation with the registrar. to sum it up i dont have any proof and i dont want to come off as if i have an agenda against a well known registrar so i did not post their name. iCANN offers me a whole plethora of useless legal cram that helps me in no way at all and ill probably loose any legal fight because the law on this seems ever so convenient that one can only use one registrar and is left and the mercy of its owners... if anybody wants a great idea for a business they should offer "registry insurance" or "registry monitoring" as some type of 3rd party audit to give customers an added level of security and protection from registrars that are nothing more than crooked pawn shops. also its very very misleading when whois info claims one is the "owner" of a certain wed domain when it is evident that the registrar is the owner being that they are free to do as they wish. ownership is something very very different and one can not lose his car if his registration expires or his life if his passport expires...
is useless...the registrar is the keeper of records and if he decides to "edit" the information there is not much you can do about it...multiple registrars would be a solution.
Do you by any chance remember the name of the registrar which you used ? Could the date be because listed on registrars are the US formatted dates Month/Day/Year instead of the format used by other countries such as Day/Month/Year ? Could that be the confusion in your case ?
oh no it was no "confusion"...i got all their spam e-mail NO PROBLEM ...i still get it every other week ...just not one single warning e-mail about my premium domain being sold for lotsa $$$$$...they claim they e-mailed me for 90 days ...the new "onwer" of my domain wont answer my e-mails ...pure theft only they did it the legit way by modifying the exp date of their service to fool me in to not renewing on time NOR did they charge my credit card again ... ICANN is worthless here... i know the name of the well known "registrar" and all their other websites very well...i just have no proof and instead of starting my own hate campaigns i decided to stay and learn...
Are you sure it wasnt the date format like said above? Such as it being listed as 2008/12/04 and you thinking it was December 4th instead of April 12th? That would result in it dropping and another person picking it up. Im sure your domain was not good enough for a registrar to want to steal it from you.
im fully aware of the US date format plus the exp. date was the 15th so no mistake could be made... technically they did not steal it from me...their TOS is ever so convenient where they say they MAY inform you about your domain reg. expiring...they change the date on my panel and im fooled in to not renewing (stupid of me to trust a registrar) and bobs your uncle there is no proof and they are in the clear... im using local registrars from now on...only people i can physically visit and touch if the need arises...
Yeah the local ones are going to be less trusting. No domain registrar that is ICANN approved is going to change your date (they cant even if they wanted). I can guarantee your name was not good enough for them to even want to take it from you. Unless it was something like ab.com... then you would have money and be able to sue.
then i guess it was an honest mistake that my domain was sold for a low five figure amount with 0 warning but 100 spam e-mails arrive with clockwork precision...i guess its a coincidence that my registration expiry date was modified and that the new owner wont answer any of my e-mails nor will anybody in his company that seems to be affiliated with the registrar (same town in the USA)...its a glitch in the system that all the info is back to normal now and that they are qualifying my e-mails as "harrasment"... no point in taking legal action when the only keeper of records is the ever so honest "ICANN approved" registrar...long live ICANN...
