Have you ever been extorted into paying a bribe, or even initiated the offer yourself? Tell your story.
Nop, never had an issue like that. But once a cop told me "If i wasn't in Police station, i'll eat your ears out..." Guess is a friend of Myke Tyson
Nope. Never had to bribe any cops. I live in a country where if you did that, 99% of the time you'd get arrested for that.
I bribed so many officials on so many times.Once there was a one day match between Bangladesh and West Indies 'A' team in our home city Rajshahi.2 policemen were the security on the Gate.We 4 friends gave them 50Tk(less than $1) and enter into the gallery.Ticket price was 70Tk per head. Once I went to the educational Board to collect provisional certificate.I had to bribe the clerk to get quick service. There are so many these type of stories. Its a normal thing in our sub-continent,bribing police or public officials. They don't get enough salary to live a statndard life. Traffic polices in our country only get around $150 per month doing 6 hours work per day.So what will he do without taking bribes? He has to maintain his family and same about others.
But isn't that a very unhealthy social system? A decent salary should be paid to the civil servants to enable them to be able to feed themselves without resorting to bribes. You can take bribes for small matters, you can also take bribes for big affairs. In the end the very fabric of the nation would be at risk.
me and my friends almost got jailed a few years back. It was a very minor offense, really. In fact it really wasn't an offense at all... just misinformed, I guess. They were asking us to pay them a few hundreds each and we didn't have money to pay them that time so they were threatening to put us in jail. (imagine me in jail? hahaha) anyway, thankfully a friend of mine knows somebody from the national bureau of investigation and swat team so they helped us out and the police didn't have a choice but to let us go. things like that happens in my country every day. anyway, moral of the story? don't drink. LOL
Yup a couple of times already ranging from cops to governement employees. The so called public servants in my country are 99% crooked.
Paying the police and others in a position of authority well is a necessary but not a sufficient tool to prevent corruption. When it comes to greed and opportunity, some people are never satisfied. The U.S. is no exception when it comes to endemic corruption--for example the Rampart scandal in the LAPD. The members of that department were not ill-paid, but the temptation to profit from illegal drugs taints criminals and cops alike until after a while, there's no dividing line, as well depicted in the movie "Training Day".
I had to pay traffic police 110 INR two times for parked my bike in No-Parking Zone (Someone Spit on No-Parking Board) DON.
In India, we have to face big guys in the form of cops, bureaucrats and politicians in our day today life. Almost all of the adult members of this forum from India would have faced the hegemonies in one or other form. Long live the brutal force!
haha it is quite common in my place I have seen many of my friends cough up a few rupees to the traffic police.. I'm lucky cos one of my relation is a police officer.. So I tell his name and get away if at all I get caught which is very very rare cos I'm a law abiding citizen but there are lot of places where there is no other way out.. unless you pay the bribe you wont even move an inch further _
