I'm making a directory about something similar to restaurants in my city, & want to know what the best way to do this will be. I've considered google maps as well but would also like a spiderable text based directory. So what do you guys recommend?
PhpLD with a mod can have that ability, to list addresses, someone recently asked here where he needed extra form fields etc because he wanted to list additional things.
This is the tread where i mentioned someone asked recently. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=714324&highlight=yellow+pages And within that thread he found part of his solution here http://www.monster-submit.com/ And you will notice that the latest version of PhpLD supports google maps. Edit: Sorry about not adding links straight away, i was trying to recall the other threads details then finding the thread.
You don't need to worry about 'mods' with the phpLynx business directory script, it was specifically built with exactly the features you want already in mind as not everyone wanted a directory for just links and descriptions.
well you don't need a mod to do business listings in phpLD and if you do need extra fields besides what the google map offers then they are easy to install for example here http://www.1800lugares.com/detail/link-1.html my client wanted a place to insert a banner if a company had it
The OP never asked about whether there was a script he could 'modify' either with his own skills or by employing another to add fields and so on, he was looking for a script that already contained this ability. And in response to you comment above, yes you do need a mod, even if the 'modification' is done by yourself its still a 'mod'. and they're only 'easy' if you know what your doing wouldn't you agree. It's only a minority who know how to add fields, I certainly don't, it was for that reason alone we implemented these features to prevent the new user having to even worry about adding fields. People should just answer the questions at hand without this constant desire to promote phpld for something it isn't. That isn't being fair on the OP, and people dare say I overpromote. @Kendal, Good post and yes that script does offer what the OP required, but you have to pay quite a lot for it. $99.95 isn't it? You nearly all of those features FREE with the phpLynx script which is the only reason I pointed this to the OP who gave me some rep for doing so.
read post again I said if he wanted extra fields but as it is now you can show address description etc......... so what more would a person want to show and as far as promoting phpld for something it isn't at least you can see all the code and change it if neccessary which you can do with yours as it uses ioncube
I read it fine first time. you need to keep up with the times, phpLynx is going opensource, so people can add what they want 'IF' they need to.
