if your after really historic places in and around the uk goto edinburgh, bath, stone henge, york but i also totally agree with mediapro - the greek islands you will have a blast, beautiful women, great night life, sun, sand, sea and cheap too plus you have all the ancient ruins and that! :)

    Italy!

My friends went during the winter in Europe, I did not. But from their pictures and their descriptions, it's unbelievable! Definite destination for architecture and art lovers!

A few cities I remembered them mentioning: Florence, Pisa, Rome, Milan, Venice...

I wouldn´t doubt if it was similar to Costa Rica where the tourist areas are more expensive than the U.S. yet the beach areas not populated by tourists are dirt cheap.

If you are looking for history-rich places, you should add Istanbul/Turkey to your list as well, which is one of the most historic cities of the world.

If you are interested in ancient cultures you can also fly to Izmir from there. Both also have tons of touristic offerings as well as night life.

If your visit will be between May-Oct. then you can also visit Antalya, where there is history as well as great beaches and fairly cheap hotels.

The best place I have ever been to in Europe is Copenhagen in Denmark. Beautiful city and very friendly people from what I remember. Like any city though you need to be familiar with where to go and where to not go. Enjoy your trip:)
