My site is 1 month old my only real competitor who claims to be the top student website in the UK has a PR of 3 the site is www . studentUK . com
mynes ofc www. studentstyle . net.

What tips can you give me on getting up there fast? my sites soon going to be submitted to the college and ive just done some major re working of the site ( for those of who have seen it before today take a look again youll be amazed)

ive got about 100 backlinks and working on more but relevent links are hard to find. have 33 back links also on quassia but that hasnt come out of private mode yet. . . . and google hasnt re google botted my site yet for all the new content and changes . . .

if you could look at my site (theres no pop ups or anything to try and get money out fo you) and PM me some tips id be greatful, the cheap shopping section is still in research mode so ignore the little information in that section lol.

Won't be too easy, the competitor has about 1750 backlinks, some low quality, but some really good ones as well. The site is 11 years old, which certainly results in a bonus. Outranking them with a 1 month doesn't seem realistic short term.

Get relevant links, make sure content is solid, and don't try to "cheat" or "game" the system.

Just keep making good content and get more backlinks. Work hard at it. You may also look at what your competitior is doing and try to do it better. You will be sure to succeed. But have some patients.

It is hard ot beat a 11 years old website with hard work even in 1 year. 1 month is definetely too law. Looking at his number of indexed pages you should not forgot that content is KING.

Legendary11, I apologise for you being misinformed here. .edu links have NO advantage over a regular .com, .co.uk, .net (etc) backlink. The only advantage you MIGHT get is the fact most .edu sites have high PR's, so the backlink MIGHT pass on a higher PR weight, other than that - a .edu link will not help your serp rankings any more than a link from a regular .com site. Build related backlinks, and you'll beat that site within, I expect, with quite a bit of hard work, in 4 months. Sign up to myspace, bebo, facebook etc, as they all have uk student groups, word of mouth about your site would easily kill off your competitor;)

I didnt think about using those sites to advertise, thanks alot :)
i typed in link: (enter the site of my competitor).net and i found they have a duplicate site linking to thier own . . . is that allowed? i also found they have paid linksite of £250 a year >.> i think it will be a long time till i get up there, jesus.
On the bright site i did submit my site to about 20 of the same ones as they have lol.

Then finish the rest of their backlinks by getting your link on the same pages - use link:domain.com on Yahoo search, it wields much greater results. Once you've got all those links sorted, keep building more. and more. and more. :D

For the best part, yes, there's not a problem with that. Unless of course they are casually writing about their day and just happen to link to your competitor, I wouldn't bother spending the time and effort to e-mail such sites as your request will largely go ignored.

Just e-mail and compliment their site, and justify why you should exchange links or they should like to you, one-way - ie. tell them it's all about PR:D hahah

Focus on getting some quality backlinks, it probably wouldn't hurt to buy a few
permanent high quality links. However, your link building stragegy should be
natural to avoid getting punished by the search engines.
