I have a site I am trying to optimize for SEO, http://www.pcfastlane.com/. My goal is to make it so that way all new posts appear on the first page of the SERPs without having to obtain any backlinks. I am already optimizing my pages, and my blog is PR 3 with over 20,000 backlinks. However, Google doesn't seem to want to put any of my posts near the first page. I know this is because my site isn't "authority", and I want to change that. My plan is to make posts everyday on my site, and then get backlinks in a daily basis. They may be from directories, forum signatures, article sites, or other blogs. How does this approach sound? Should I focus on links to my homepage, or instead focus on getting links to the posts I wish to optimize?
First, Google doesn't give sites so called "authority" status. Webmasters use this term for sites that appear in many many many different search results. This is due to the fact they have a "large" amount of quality backlinks pointing to their site. After everything is said and done with on-page optimization you must continue the endless process of off-page optimization.
I think that you'll get more online benefits if you'll promote both the homepage and subpages of your site
I agree with aira. You need to get both homepage links and deep links to your site. The deep links should of course focus on some key posts of yours. You should also consider the internal linking of your site. A "best posts" or "most popular posts" list with links in the sidebar will help these posts rank.
Could you please clarify the difference between on page and off page op.? I suppose on page is keyword targeting?
I'll do it. On-page optimization is the process of optimizing your code and content for the search engines. Keyword research, writing qulaity relevant content, using as little HTML as possible while still retaining a strong structure for the page, and so on. Off-site optimization is getting as many other sites to link back to yours as possible (bear in mind this definition is "in a nutshell" and I'm sure someone will come along with a more detailed and concise explaination in a vain attempt to correct me even though they'll be echoing what I just said here).
On page optimization is using your targeted keywords in the title, the meta tags, and on the page itself. While off page optimization is building quality backlinks and using the appropriate keyword as the anchor text to link back to the site.
My dear friend You should focus on both on page and off page optimization to get top in google and for this don't only concentrate on home page but with this concentrate on deep link pages also and subpages also. Finally providing backlinks only to homepage will bring your home page top not other subpage, yes i am agree that PR will pass to other pages automatically when you have high PR at home page but do you know how much PR ? So the answer is very very very very ....... low keep it in mind cool mate and Enjoy your day
