What thing are required to improve my directory?

I have a premium or paid web directory called Linksbucket. It is a PR3 site, but the problem is that I have very less backlinks to my site cause I was not putting my attention to my site before. But now I have re-designed it and am giving it full concentration.

While keeping this in mind, I have placed the link to my site on ALL forums I have joined, in a few days my backlinks will increase, but is it the only thing to improve my site?

Can you suggest me something to make my site more good? what factors can encourage buyers to submit their sites in my directory?

    Please advice me.

    Thank you

    - try to get a higher PageRank as some are still looking after it before submitting
    - traffic is what you need
    - try to have unique design
    - fair review price
    - add more features
    - add content
    - add to it whatever it takes to make it unique & useful
    - don't accept crap websites just because they pay.

The answer to your question is a predictable one. We all give the same advices, but from this "to-do list" there are very few that accomplish all points.

This may seem tiny but i would add the word "that" to:

The only directory that focuses more on clients than money!

Edit: This is a human edited website directory contains only quality websites. We are a group of web designers and developers and this directory is our first step into the directory business. Unlike others we are providing only quality links with extra benefits to our advertisers and site submitters.

Please feel free to browse our website and you are more than welcome to submit your website on linksbucket. Read more

Change contains to containing, or that contains

Not being picky just tiny things like that make a difference.

As pipes said proper grammer on the site may be a good place to start. I saw at least two places where you need to add the word "that" and I just skimmed a few spots.

    To add to that

A working submission form would be a nice touch for a directory.

Personally I like to see the categories when the page opens rather than all the banners, but that is my preference. It might turn people off from the directory when they see all those banners on the site so prominently displayed.

The ability to add unique content with articles or a blog would be a good move imo.

I count 18 total categories so you may want to add a deeper structure.

I counted only 2 links which is probably because the submission page is not working.

Build links to it once you have it finished.

Thank you Pipes, Actually I am not very good in English, I tried my best :)

    I will change it soon.

Yes, my friend (who is a coder) is working on it. It will be ready soon.

Actually I wanted to build a small directory where only quality links are added. I will try to add some more categories.

Yes I will go for ARTICLES thing. I will search the internet what and how articles are written and I will write my own articles :)

Yes, people like my website very much and they want to add their sites but because of not having a submission form they are feeling unsecure :(

I have already started working on it :)

It is simple HTML... No script there.

This domain was using the phpLynx free version
..and judging by my prelim checks they still have it installed on their servers but without ioncube installed correctly which is why there's no search box etc.

Perhaps the OP might want to delete the old data referencing phpLynx?

Yes, my site has seen very ups and downs :)

When I bought this domain I installed phplynx script, but I couldn't understand how it works so I deleted the HTML files (dont know what files are still linked to phplynx) and after deleting the files I made a simple directory with static HTML but I had no time to maintain it so I left this site.

But now I am ready for this site, so I redesigned it and give it a completely PRO look.

Do I have to remove some files that are referring to phplynx script files?

What you've done Glito, or Jani as we know you, is that when you installed the script you've left the admin folders/files there, and probably many other files? If you have no intention of using the phpLynx script (although it would work wonders with your template, and I'm sure we could help you integrate it), you can simply delete old files on your server that were installed by us. We'd gladly do that for you if you call over at our forum.

Stunning template Jani, excellent work. :)

I won't add to what the others said as I agree with their suggestions.

I do think you are making life much harder for yourself by not using one of the directory scripts available - there are free versions of most of them. Yes, you will have to play with whichever one you choose to learn how to run it but you will save much more time than having to edit each category by hand. There are lots of folks here and in the directory software forums that are willing to help for free or for a fee.

It will be quite challenging to manage your site without some sort of CMS system running it as directories can quickly have thousands of pages. Think about it, do you want to hand-edit all 1,000 pages if you add something new to your menus?

@hyper - I disagree with this. I find it disconcerting that it was also the "first comment". People are still looking for PR when they submit, because others are still advocating PR chasing. Whilst we all continue to encourage other directory owners to chase PR, they will sell their directory on the strength of their PR. This needs to stop. Forget about PR. Don't think about it, Don't take steps to increase it, Don't pay attention to it. It's 100% worthless in terms of what you are offering as a directory owner.

The rest of the comments you made however, were useful :)

I have done some major enhancements on my site. Have added many more and deep categories.

The only thing which I am not happy with is that google has not indexed the new pages yet. May be it will take few more days.

Submission form page is in its final stage and should be ready within 3-4 days :)

I have decided to submit links permanently. Site is not 100% ready at the moment, when it is ready i will announce it here.

If anyone wants to add his site at this stage, he is more than welcome. Please feel free to ask me/suggest me anything you like.
