Inbound links of any type will not get you banned

I don't know who it was that convinced everyone that you can get banned if you build [insert_theory_here].

Nothing you do offsite can hurt your rankings. This include buying links, getting site wide links, links from banned sites, links from unrelated sites etc, etc, etc...

If anyone thinks otherwise - I'll hire your services on a success basis to get sites that rank higher than mine banned from Google.

I got the impression that purchasing links can hinder your ranking, but I'm not sure if this is true.

I totally agree with korzon - any links coming in from 'off-site' can't do anything to HURT your site. How could google penalize YOU for someone else linking to you. How would google be able to undeniably prove that you paid or didn't pay for any given incoming link. No way, so they wouldn't penalize you for that. Only thing they can/would penalize you for is what you do on your site. So if you do a bunch of recips out of your site, or if you sell links from your site, THAT is what could cause you to be penalized.

Now that all being said, just because an paid incoming link doesn't hurt you, it sure doesn't mean that it helps you either...

We indulged in an experiment with a trial site, dropped from PR4 to PR2 after a link buying exercise.....

The thread is referring to getting banned from the Google index rather than a given website's Page Rank (PR). Hence, we would be more interested in the effects of your link-buying practices on factors such as SERPs, and whether the website was completely removed from the index.

Google don't need absolute proof, if they suspect enough that you bought links or participated in the coop they just do it. They can pretty much tell a clean site from black hat by just querying a few public databases(their own search engine, for instance).

Though the title referred to getting banned, I elaborated in my post and I don't believe inbound links can hurt your pagerank or SERPs.

There are millions of reasons why a site may drop in PR or SERPs and blaiming it on "purchasing links" is pure speculation. In fact, if you do nothing - you're likely to drop in SERPs and PR simply due to competition. So if your experiment creating shady links and you dropped in PR/SERPs, I believe you would have seen the same drop had you simply done nothing.

Like I stated in the post, if you think you can hurt a site's rankings by linking to it from bad websites I'll gladly pay for your services.

What if a young site suddenly gets thousands of new backlinks, all of them with the exact same anchor text. Could that hurt it?

    That's for sure.
Otherwise, it's easy to get down competitor's ranking.

I don' think anything you do will get you banned. However, you can get penalised and this is enough for any website which would like to generate money - follow the rules and you will succeed.

    Many argue on this statment

buyer can never get penalized ,if so ill buy for my competitor and get them penalized ....but google recently giving penalty for that "buying links"
    Code (markup):
-im saying it on my experince

though authority sites dont really get effected

people sale how google give penatly when some one buy links for us ,google do what they like those see how legmite that is

no they wont ban you may be ,but very much possiblity of penalty if new site

So from reading the above it seems like the ideal plan would be one that gave you lots of links but a few at a time to look more natural. And most with different tag lines like with a script running to change words based on a thesaurus.

Google has penalized site-wide links and internal links in the last 5 months. These kind of links don't have much value like they used to be.

nah that just means you got sandboxed. New sites take a hit when they stop being new regardless.

Nothing that happens outside your site can hurt you as if this was true then people will start to get paid links for their competitors in order to get them banned, I agree to what you say.

You can try to set up a new domain, get as much crappy links as possible and tell me if ranks or not. Better yet, create many crappy links for your existing website and tells will it drop in rankings. I bet that it will... but that's just me :)
