Are there any disadvantages with .shtml?

    I need to use it for coding. Are there any disadvantages over .html or are they the same?

    Nope, no problem.

    If you don't like it for aesthetic reasons, you can use the x-bit hack on Apache/*nix. I don't know about Windows servers.

    For Windows , you will need to use the shtm or shtml, haven't seen any tricks to use htm or html

    There is nothing wrong with the extension you use.

    Otherwise Coldfusion would be out of business right hehe.
