    Hi everyone,

I have a question and hopefully someone can help me here. I ran into a question the other day while building links. I was wondering if I am building backlinks

    1. Should I point all my links to the home page or should I try to build backlink to my other pages in the subdirectories?

    2. Is there a difference when I am building backlink to my home page or subdirectories? Or it doesnt matter because it is going to the same main directory.

Hope that makes sense. Maybe this would clear it up.

    Home page: mysite.com
    sub directory: mysite.com/article1
    sub directory: mysite.com/article2

Right now I only have 5 page, but will try to write more later when I have time. But in the mean time should I spend my time getting backlinks for my home page or try to get backlinks to all 5 of my pages.

thank you in advance. any help would be apprecited.

Focused building the subdirectories first then only focused more on the Main homepage.
People normally build the homepage but forgot to build the link for sub page.

Build it slowly and start with the sub page. If you have 5 subpages, then build one link for a week.
Move on the front page the next month.

With this technique, Google will not catch you buying link or what so ever

At first, build back Links for the home page, after some time, start building back links for home page + inner pages too.

Google juice is passed to the exact url, so it does matter which url the link points to.

In my case, I spent my first few years building every single link to my homepage, with the idea in mind that all my homepage juice would trickle down through my site any way. This brought me good results.

But I ran into a brick wall with how much I could optimize the homepage. For my main terms, I realized I could be good (i.e. ranked #2-5), but not get to number 1 rank unless I had a page where the entire them of the page corresponded to the keyword.

So building homepage links will help in the beginning to start getting juice to your site, but certainly at some point if not now, you have to get links to the sub pages if you want to eventually be number in those keyword searches.

thank all of you for the responses.

I also have a follow up question? Hope you someone can answer this too. So from what everyone said, getting backlink to the homepage and subdirectories are not the same. Does this mean if I focus very hard to build many backlinks for my subdirectory1(mysite.com/article1), in the long run my homepage will actually have a lower backlink or maybe lower link juice than my subdirectory1?

Or does the link juice from subdirectory1 leaks to my homepage and my homepage always have better juice than any subdirectory?

Hope that make sense. But maybe this will clear it up.

    Home page: mysite.com(only couple backlinks)
    sub directory: mysite.com/article1(many many backlinks)

Which page will have more link juice and Page Rank?

    Thank you in advance.

This is not a big problem if you have high-quality content for the inner pages.
