What if Iran detonates nuclear bomb in Seattle, Washington

You are president of the United States. You have just been informed that Iran has somehow managed to detonate a nuclear bomb in Seattle, Washington killing almost everyone in the city.

What would you do in response if you were president?

 

You said it was China in your other political thread started today.... I really don't see Iran doing this but if they did they'd have to be destroyed.

 

Yeah, I thought it might be more challenging to change it to Iran. But, if you prefer... let's say China nuked Seattle.

 

after reading this, i would be hesitant to blindly retaliate. i would need to be 100% sure of who did it.

 

It is more challenging to change it to Iran, because they don't have nukes, but China does.

Why are you trying to twist the situation around? I don't understand how hard the question was, but I'll state it again just in case and try to make it as clear as a bell.

You are the president of the United States. Iran has just detonated a nuclear bomb in Seattle and it has killed everyone in the city. You know 100% for sure Iran did it. You also know it was detonated in Seattle because you can see the aftermath on TV and perhaps with your own eyes.

I also know Iran doesn't have nukes. I also know that Seattle has little strategic value as a target.

So instead of starting a global nuclear war, maybe I question the situation before wiping out the human race.

Ok, so I'm guessing that your response is to question the situation. What exactly does that entail? Uh oh... this just in... Iran has just nuked Chicago on the same day. Now what?

I have a fondness for the PAC NW, and Seattle in particular, but just the same, is this going to be a nuclear war? If Iran only used one nuke, and on one city, do we know where to attack their other nuke sites?

The warmonger approach is to attack anyone and everyone. But as Willie Nelson recently said in an interview I heard, (paraphrased) "When someone hits me, I like to look around the room and figure out who it was before I swing back".

It's not really silly, a situation like this could happen. Might not, but then again it could. In this situation we are not questioning whether or not it would or would not happen... we're saying for a fact that it has.
