Hi! We're trying to decide if we should use "Web site" or "website" as an SEO best practice on our site. (We do website content and we want people to find us). Does it matter which we use? I notice that when I type "web site" into Google, it asks me, "Did you mean 'website'?". Yet, when I use the Digital Point keyword selector, "website" as one word doesn't even come up, it's "not found,' as if no one ever searches on "website." Only "web site" as two words brings up search counts. Seems strange to me, as I'd guess that most people would search the term as one word. Any one know? thanks!
Well I use website since its pretty much a word now. Brief history: The term for a site on the internet was called - World Wide Web Site - then Web Site - then Website - now So if you are targeting middle age people maybe Web Site may be the way to go since that is probably what they first learned. Either way I dont think it makes a big enough difference SEO wise to even worry about.
Concentrate on one only per page. Don't target two very hard KWs on the same page, rather then have another page for the alternative.
Okie-Agree with you ! But now after 4.5 yrs passed and this needs to be updated. The reason is that most of the people now use "site" word instead of the whole word "website". Site is more common, understood by all as website. hence WEB has become quite a redundant word. But still, lot of out there are using website (specially novice ) and the more formal word is still website and not Site. So its now a 40-60 % combination. And you need to use Website ( as it also has the keyword : "site" ) - but to fight the competition you have to use "site" word separately !! Just wait and watch for the next big change for this particular keyword ^_^
So perhaps the solution is to use both "site" and "website" as the multiple keywords, instead of "web site."
HI, USE any google adwords tools with 'web site and website' keywords and choose one which has high search rate.
using Both of them is just great. as Google will suggest the corrct one so using Website is cool. but if you work for both of them then you can te tension free. thanks
This has peaked my interest because I have never thought of this one before! Thanks Aaron. Another thing you could do landrud is see how many people are searching for each keyword and choose the one that has the highest searches per month. You'll receive more traffic for the keyword with more searches.
Why do you have to use one? I'd register both, 301 one of them to my main site while i set up the other and then, if it's getting more searhc traffic, just set up the other one. At least you'll prevent your competitors from getting it.
Hope there is no difference between the word "web site" or "website" , Google is smart enough to track both means the similar word so you don't have to worry about the same, later will be fine enough to optimize for.
Since google suggested website don't you think that would be the better keyword. It's no use going against the grain.
The answers to this is getting interesting, and they are really helpful. My 2 cents - according to your question, you want to dominate the keyword / keywords, so it is not an EMD. Go for both of them, optimize them so that you are found for both of them. And get any other keywords related to them that attract the traffic you desire. You already set up a website with another domain name right?
