Hi All, Which is most power full reason to increase alexa ranking. And which is to decrease it. Prompt reply will be highly appreciated.
This is kind of off-topic so please forgive me. Alexa rank is the last thing a webmaster needs to worry about. It is far from an accurate web ranking tool, less than 0.5% of web surfers use the Alexa toolbar (which provides the ranking data). In theory, Alexa toolbar is nothing but spyware. It collects your surfing data and habits and reports it to a central server, which is then resold to marketing and analysis companies. I find it rather interesting how they cloaked their internet marketing data mining process with a website ranking tool. It's also funny how many spyware removes identify it as spyware.
Like ssandecki said, it's useless but it's also one of the few mechanisms for advertisers to see your traffic/impressions. So you may want to manipulate it if you're going to sell links or if you're completely bored.
Best reason to increase it - People that use it and believe in it will think you get a lot of traffic if you have a good ranking. Best reason to decrease it - Not sure there's a benefit in making it look like you get less traffic. As mentioned above, a popular saying I hear about Alexa is that it's inaccurate at best!
Alexa Rank is a ranking system which bases its ranking schema on the level of traffic each website receives from the number of people who visit a website with the Alexa tool bar installed. You should not worry about increase in alexa rank and work for traffic for your site, you will get alexa ranking for your website increased.
That's basically the bottom line - if you want to increase your Alexa ranking then just download the toolbar and make your site your home page. Be warned that (as well as being spyware) it slows your browsing down quite a bit - install it on a spare old machine if you can ...There's also another tool that's being advertised on DP it's called 'magic surfer' - it's an automated web browser that visits sites via proxies. It's only a couple of dollars and seems to be quite effective. Putting all the negativity aside I actually check my alexa rank quite frequently because I know that a lot of webmasters use it and my site is of interest to webmasters - this gives me a view on how many webmasters visit my site...
It only works for those who have an Alexa toolbar installed in their PCs. In general, it's not a reliable tool/system for traffic analysis.
