    Hi All

I have the oportunity to get a backlink from a PR7 site that is semi-relevant for my site, although it's going to cost me. So was just wondering how much of a advantage getting this link is to my site will be, my site is fairly new and still in the sandbox/filtered by Google?

    Thanks

depends on how old is the site and how many outgoing links are on that page

Can you tell us how much they're going to charge for this link?

...I think you should think about the amount of traffic you're going to get from the link too - how much traffic does their site get?

The link is £310 per year, there are only about 10 other outward links on the page so it should pass on a decent amount of PR, not sure about the referrals from the site though, although I doubt many would convert so I don't think the traffic would be of much benefit to me

If you look for example at this recent thread on Google Pagerank Simplified Formula and start calculating, then you'll find out that is takes quite a lot of high-quality inbound links to increase your Google PageRank by just one point (assuming your website has PR3+). Wouldn't the 310 quid be better spent on getting someone to optimise the internal link-structure of your website?

Depending on the cost you might be better off using the money on a well thought out PPC campaign.

I don't wanna hurt anybody's feelings but getting link from high PR sites does not matter anymore. So PR 7 is same as PR 0. But fact is you probably gonna get a good price may be like 50-70 bucks from some PR crazy people.

I don't know if it 'does not matter anymore' but you're right in principle - I'd be more interested in the traffic the link could get me.... Traffic = Money :)

Do you have any evidence for this or is this just a rumor-driven assertion?

It is a fact. You may ask SEO professionals. This change has been done few months back. Used to be the case when PR was a big factor. Thats how all the directories made money, selling PR fame.

What Google at the moment values most is content and backlink. If you get backlinks from related site, thats the best thing you can do for your site. Doesn't matter what PR it is. Main idea is establishing your website's authority on the subject matter of the website.
