I believe they are evil along with cPanel. Meanwhile I do support DirectAdmin and Installatron. Netenberg is just not a flexible company to work with.
Fantastico is a great software add on. I find that it is definitely not "evil", it certainly help automate a lot of script updating or installation even for those who know next to nothing about php. Great software plugin for Cpanel and nothing evil in it.
im just worried about the security part of it. what is the difference between fantastico and a manual install?
Actually manual install is better of course, but Fantastico install is good for those who are new and want the installation fast. Updates will also be easier.
I've had very mixed results with Fantastico. I no longer use it because I have changed from CPanel hosting to H-Sphere hosting (and I will never look back!). H-Sphere also has some built-in installers similar to Fantastico, with fewer choices, but I wouldn't use it either. Most things are pretty easy to install manually after the initial learning curve of your first installation.
Manual install helps you to understand your site much better, you know what you have done, and if problems arise, that will help you a lot.
yes., but fantastico saves time a lot. . . .not only for wordpress which is easy anyways...but for other types of cmses . . . i am in for fantastico . . .how is it less secure than a manual install? please clear the same.
I agree, once you have installed your first script yourself, it becomes relatively easy when installing other scripts.
yeah, it s a good tool. If you maintain a lot of wordpress blogs then it comes handy specially when updating them.
Fantastico is great for users who do not know what they're doing. It also makes it easy for them to update their scripts without the need to upload new files and run upgrade scripts. The big down side for Fantastico is some times they're slow on getting out updates for scripts when there are serious exploits in the wild. Of course most users using Fantastico for their script installs would not update manually anyways.
