this happened to someone else as well, im having doubts about host gator now, but i can't find anyone that offers the features they do at a good price

what plan were you on with them? baby or swamp? and how much traffic did you generate before they sent you that email? and did they give you some sort of warning or was that the first and only email

It was a new year day, and I expected to receive more than 20k uniques (as per awstats)

Let me add another thing, the more worst thing about hostgator is that they suspend account without any prior warning to you.

Further, they generate revenue by placing parked page on your domain / site.

Overclock,Not image hosting, text messages you can see my blog URL

My vote goes for "The Planet". Their prices are a little bit higher than average, but they have great service and fix problems fast.

yea, i contacted them about the suspending of accounts, this was my chat session, it seems as though they do give u more than the two options u mentioned earlier, i had doubts, but after this chat session, im more confident to move forward with them, im sure this cpu stabiliy b/c of surges in traffic thing is common to most web hosts..

"Z: ok; ive talked to a couple people that have had an account with you guys and got their account suspended b/c of surges in traffic on their site(s), and was told that all they got was an email saying to move to another host or move to a dedicated server
    Z: can u comment/expand on this
    Jess: Sure.
Jess: When an account causes issues on the server, it must be suspended to ensure that service is restored to as many accounts on the server as quickly as possible. A review is done of the account and cause of the issue. The notification gives the client options to address the issue. I will get you the list provided to the client.
    Jess: One moment please.
Jess: Actually, here is the full email notification we'd send a client, which would be followed by specific account information regarding the cause of the issue:
    Jess: "Hi,
Jess: This message is to advise you of a temporary block placed on your account.
Jess: The account referenced above was found to be consuming an inordinate amount
Jess: of processor time, to the point of degrading overall system performance.
Jess: While we do limit each account to no more than 25% of a system's CPU in our
Jess: terms of service, we do not actively disable accounts until they greatly exceed
Jess: that number, which is what happened in this case.
Jess: It was necessary to disable your account to maintain a minimum level of proper
Jess: service for everyone else. From this point, the following options are available:
Jess: a) Block heavy users of your site, if any, that may be causing excessive load.
Jess: b) Optimize scripts (php, etc) that may be consuming a large amount of cpu.
Jess: c) Upgrade to a dedicated server; your site may have outgrown a shared environment.
Jess: Please let us know if you have a solution you feel would resolve this issue.
Jess: Should a solution not be forthcoming, we are happy to assist you with an upgrade
Jess: to dedicated services, where your site will have room to grow without affecting
Jess: other customers. I appreciate your attention to this matter. Thank you.

I agree that they give more than the option I specified (optimizing your script) but can you tell me how can you optimize your script while they block your access to cpanel/ftp/ and everything ?
you can't even move your database to somewhere else
you don't have access to anything

I have requested them to give my support tickets history, as soon as I get it. I will copy / paste it to you for your ready reference.

BTW, have you asked them how many abuse admin they have? and how many pending tasks they have for abuse department?

Beside & before the account suspension, I was a voter for hostgator myself:)

But I really hated the way they suspend..

Almost any webhost is decent when your site is small and gets low traffic. The real face of webhosts start to be revealed only when your site gets high traffic. They suspend your account without notice / they insist that you should upgrade to their dedicated server plan (that costs much higher amount for you).

If you are thinking of growing your site BIG, then be careful in choosing webhost (Check their dedicated hosting plans also, you may require them later). Because when the actual problem arises in future, it's really difficult to move to another host.

I use hostgator, but i dont know about being the best, i guess it depends what your doing with the site, if its a bit heavy then you know most hosts are going to cut things off, they cant really provide us all that promise for $10 a month, it would be impossible.

    Lunarpages has earned my respect.

Hostgator is an excellent option too.

It all depends on what you need.

How about listing hostings which provide let's say more than 30% of CPU??? If not, no one is best!

If you want that much, you'd be better off getting a VPS or something.

Vidahost, a smaller, dynamic hosting company with great people behind it. Makes all the difference to be able to get some decent support.
