First off, Mods if this is in the wrong section please move it. I've got a thread in the Buy/Sell/Trade section as well but I think it would also fit in General. Thanks! :)

Hey there DP! My name is Jillian and I'm currently attending Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. I'm part of an on-campus society called One Moment - it's a charitable society whose goals are two-fold: to provide fun and entertaining events for the University population (because 'life is too short'!) as well as raise awareness and funds for children under the age of 15 living with AIDS and HIV worldwide. Please check out our official mandate here: http://one-moment.org/society/

One such event is an upcoming QUIDDITCH TOURNAMENT. (Rules are adapted from the official Intercollegiate Quidditch Association, you can see a clip from one of their games here). All proceeds raised from this event (through entrance fees and selling of Harry Potter fanbags) will go directly to the cause. Learn more about the event here: http://one-moment.org/

So why am I approaching DP? Such an event takes some money initially to start up - the field has to be booked, equipment (like goal hoops and bludgers and quaffles!) need to be purchased. We've actually already bought all these things and the event is slated for the 22nd of March, however we would appreciate greatly any sponsors willing to help us alleviate these costs. And trust me, ANYTHING helps!

$60 would help us pay off the cost of renting the field. That's just 12 people donating $5 each.
Another $50 would help us pay off most of our equipment.
Anything extra will go towards the charity.

So if there's ANYTHING at all you could spare it would help us so much. I'm prepared to offer to those who donate over $20 a spot on our Sponsors page linking to YOUR website. Although the one-moment.org website doesn't have too much traffic (as it is a student society) it is linked to by a University (www.dal.ca) on several pages (check out official DalNews coverage here: http://dalnews.dal.ca/2008/01/24/quidditch.html). Hopefully this would equal to yummy PR juice for you!

So to reiterate, ANY donations (even $1.00, $2.00) would be so sweet, anything over $20 will get you a link on our page. If you're feeling generous, for $50 we'll mention your website on our page, during the game (it will be commentated), and in our advertising materials.

Please donate by Paypal either through that website (the blue Donate! button) or through

Let me know if you have any questions, and THANK YOU SO MUCH! :) You're really helping out an amazing cause!

I tell you what I can do Jillian - I am currently running an auction for one of my sig links:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=747181

Since it is such a worthy cause I will donate whatever I get for that signature link. I will need you to confirm that I have done that after the auction has closed (in the unlikely event people think I ran off with the cash).

Tell me, what are you studying?

CountryBoy thank you so much, it's appreciated! I'll def keep people updated on whether you sent the money or not if that's what you want me to do. :) And like I've said above, if it's over $20 let me know your website and I'll add it to our sponsors page.

I'm currently in my second year of a Biology Co-Op degree. I'm still not entirely sure what to do later on since I'm basically all around the map - was in a Science/Music program for my first year, then a Biology/Computer Science for the beginning of my second. Now I'm thinking of taking a combined Biology Co-Op with a Neuroscience Major in my third year, it's def. hard to decide since I've got a tonne of interests. :)

PS: I also forgot to mention to anyone who is donating - once the event is over and done I'll send you over some links to pictures/videos as well, since we're planning on documenting this epic event! ;)

Karl thank you so much! And don't worry about the paypal fees, I just signed up for a Paypal account for the society and I don't think it's verified yet (Personal account) so I don't think they charge anything extra. Once we hook it up to our community bank account they might but in the meantime don't worry about it! Thanks again. :)

For others remember, any little bit counts! If you can only afford some spare change that would still be amazing!

To those considering sponsorship - MWCD of 7thspace (http://7thspace.com/web_directory/) has very kindly donated a $100 gift certificate along with a monetary donation for our cause. As an incentive for further sponsors, if you donate $5.00 or more I will submit your site to their Web Directory (a do-follow directory, which normally costs $5.00 to get listed in!). As per their regulations I cannot submit any 'content containing adult material, drugs, gambling or any other illegal content', which goes the same for sites sponsoring our event as well.

    Thanks again. :)

Out of curiosity, how do you plan to have a Quiddich game? Will people just be running around the field on a broom chasing a small yellow hamster ball?

My auction is over (24 hrs have expired) and the winning bid for the link was only $28 I'm sorry to say. I have PMed the buyer for payment and I'm waiting for him to get back in touch. If it only goes for $28 I will double that myself.

Send me your email (and anyone else who is interested) and I'll send you a copy of the rulebook. It's actually pretty hilarious the way the game is set up (we're going by the official Intercollegiate Quidditch Rules made by Alex Benepe). For example the 'Snitch' we are using is a plush snitch velcro-y attached to a Snitch Runner (a human). The Seekers (on brooms and donning capes) will literally be chasing after the Snitch Runner all across campus attempting to snatch the 'plush snitch'. Check out the video in the first post if you want to see an example of how that's played out!

$28 will help us so much and it was already generous of you to donate that, please don't feel guilty or feel that you have to give more (trying not to instill guilt in our supporters is actually something outlined in our mandate!). Of course if you wanted to give extra we'll of course gladly accept it but seriously, even $28 will help us out loads!

ETA: and of course there is no video in my first post *facepalm* Check these out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=GoTF8k6de_k

I'd like to thank CountryBoy (and the person who purchased their sig link!) for the donation which I've just received! Honestly, the amount of generosity from DP has literally blown me away, I never anticipated it! :D
Thank you all so much! And keep the love coming. :)

i was going to donate but need to clarify,
do you mean over $20 in CAD or USD? because when I click paypal donate, it shows only CAD.

this is my first time hearing about the game itself in reality anddonating for uiqueness (to me at least) :)

Hey Kaung - we're based in Canada so I'm willing to add in your link for any donation $20=/+ CAD yes. :)
I'm glad you like the uniqueness of the fundraising event! As a crazy mad Harry Potter fan, it wasn't too hard to think up but it was def. tricky getting all the logistics working!
If you've donated just pm me the site you want included on the sponsorship page and I'll add that to the site as well as to the 7th space directory. Thank you!

Just to keep you guys updated - currently from DP ALONE we've secured $116 in funding (is that not phenomenal?). Coupled with the participation fee we've charged the Quidditch players and small amounts of local sponsorship, we're just $10 away from paying off our expenses! That means that anything made after that (through further sponsors, entranced-based spectator donations, and the selling of HP fanswag) we make will be able to go directly to the charity.

I just want to thank DP once again for this - it's a great feeling knowing that on that day every cent we pull in will go directly to the cause!

As it stands now it's too late to include your url on advertising material as we already have them printed, so any sponsorship over $50 will unfortunately not get that added bonus. However, the $20 in exchange for a link on our page still applies. As well, for any donation over $5 I will include your site in a do-follow web directory, generously offered by 7th Space. Please let me know if you have any questions, or shoot me off a pm if you need anything clarified.

    Thanks!

I'd just like to thank all the sponsors one more time for helping us make the game a success! We had it this afternoon and I'm still recovering. :) The weather unfortunately was not cooperating - it was ridiculously windy, cold, and it snowed near the beginning, but our teams were still able to play, we had a decent crowd, and a great time! Overall we managed to raise more than $300+ for charity!

I'll get some videos up later, but here is a link to the photo album:
