Search engadget in google and you will find sitelinks along with additional site search box or view attachment. i have seen this for the first time for a site. I know what are site links and how google collect them and show in search results. "Sitelinks are additional links Google sometimes generates from site contents in order to help users navigate your site. Google generates these sitelinks periodically from your site's contents." What type of SEO is required to get site search field on google result page?
Proper internal linking will help Google generate sitelinks for your website. http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2007/10/webmasters-can-now-provide-feedback-on.html http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47334
yeah, thats exactly the thing i have been dying to find out how to do.. Try searching psychostats you will see that google indexes site links for their site too.. but i wish i knew how to do it.. can anyone tell me ?
Yes i know that. I want to know what special engadget did to get extra site search field on search result page.
This is the first time I have seen this as well. We all know that proper structure will help you generate sitelinks but I've read nothing on search boxes. It looks as if they have about 450,000 indexed pages...which really isn't that much.
I would assume sites that have a very large internal linking structure would get this feature. Only common sense.
I posted the same thing in the google section http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=747839 but what I have noticed its only top name sites... Government websites, Walmart, and Flikr. I think it has little to do with your site structure and a lot to do with the type of site.
I'm not sure how, but my site got the search box!! I don't know if its an algorithm thing or not, i noticed myspace doesn't have the search box...nor does any of my competitors (which rocks)
This is called Teleporting. According to google websites displaying site search box are chosen algorithmically based on metrics that measure how useful the search box is for the users of that website.
